Replacement Primera? Steve-300zx...you know if there will be one?

I know Nissan axed the P12 as sales slumped, but it was once their main seller in the mid 90s when the car looked quite good.

I had heard that Nissan may be bringing back some kind of intermediate sized car. Maybe based on the US Altima/Maxima? Is there any truth behind this?

Unfortunately, Nissan have a huge gap between the Micra/Note/Qashqai sized cars and their big SUVs. Is the geriatric Almera still available or a replacement being planned? Is the Qashqai the replacement for that...although Nissan call it a cross-over?

Nothing crap about this. Good cars at the time, pretty reasonable now. I always liked the eGT P10. Almeras were bland as a pair of moccasins, P12s had an interesting dash, but the car was ugly..

This is an SRi, but the eGT looks similar. The SR20 was fitted to it and it was a pretty good car. Poverty spec examples look boring, but so do poverty spec examples of most other mainstream saloons.

There are no plans to replace the Primera or Almera.

The company have basically pulled out of both the C segment market (Almera) and the D segment market (Primera). Both these models were unprofitable (even from the most productive car plant in Europe LOL).

The Qashqai was launched when the Almera production stopped at the beginning of 2007. People assumed that the Qashqai was the direct replacement for that market. The Qashqai is a SUV / Crossover positioned somewhere between the C and D segment marketplace. There was a clear gap in the market that this model filled, although several car makers are now producing competition for this segment (Ford and Volvo have both recently launched similar models).

The Micra is another model that will not be replaced by Nissan in the UK. It is a very competitive segment (B) of the market and one that the company is unable to compete in. This car will stop production in 2010 and will be replaced by a small SUV. This will be along the lines of the RAV4 or a smaller version of the Qashqai.

The Qashqai is currently outselling (by a long way) both the Primera and Almera put together, so I suppose you could say they got it right. This year the plant will produce 270,000 Qashqai's and they are expecting the new smaller SUV to be as successful. Time will tell.

Hope I haven't rattled on too much LOL

Do you work at the Sunderland plant then Steve? I'm contracting at NTCE Cranfield at the mo!

I do mate. Been there 20 years, for my sins :D

Been to the Cranfield site a few times over the years

20 years!? Mug ;)

If you happen to come down anytime soon, let me know! Apparently, there are a few Zeds up at NMUK aren't there? Just the one down here though - but it's a great one ;)

They've got the supercharged 350Z in the atrium at the moment and I take great pleasure in telling people how it's a lower spec than my old 300ZX - 383FWHP and 0-60 in 4.9? Pah! :p

The newer T5R's are over 300 mate

really wow not much chance of me keepin up then for now :)

was suprised the other day though was in a porsche showroom where i found out the boxster s is only 228 bhp thought it would have been higher

Thanks Steve. Interesting that.

On a side note, I think if Nissan had designed an attractive supermini, it might have sold more? The mechanicals, as always are good.

It seems Nissan will be making nothing but SUV's and their clones, plus the 350z & GTR.

What a weird range of cars. Is this the "don't compete with Renault" result?

Thanks Steve. Interesting that.

Profit margin in B segment cars is nine tenths of nothing Si.

The competition is fierce. We build Micra's since 1992 and made fook all. The new B segment crossover / SUV will be a high profit vehicle, as the retail price will be significantly higher than the "pram with gears" Micra.

It's a market with very little competition and great potential, as the Qashqai was and still is.

Nissan will be making a Micra based model after 2010 but it will be produced in there new Indian plant...for obvious reasons.
