Afternoon all,

 

Just started the car after not using it for a few months everything is fine except, the Crank pulley is shacking :shock:

 

How would this happen as I have not been using the car, does the bolt just need doing up?

 

Any advice would be great :bow:

crank pulley has/needs a small locking key that fits with it then bolt up. I would undo it and check the grub key (think thats what its called) is there first.

i think you neen the keyway mate

that sounds about right

:dance:hi mate ill be supprised if the centre bole is lose as the bole is very tight it may well be the pulley wheel itself is damaged in some way have a spare here if you need it

The pulley has an internal rubber harmonic damper and this can split and cause similiar a problem to what you have, if this is the case it will need replacing.

Hi nellys300zx :) will keep that in mind. Will keep a look out for you around MK.

Sounds more like the woodruff key is either not there or bolt has worked loose, Bolt should be torqued to around 200ft lb IIRC.

 

Remove the radiator and viscous blade for room.

 

If car is a manual place it in gear and check tightness or if removal you will need a 2-3 legged puller. 27mm socket and long breaker type bar

 

If car is auto you can either lock pulley with an old v.ribbed belt (quicker) Or remove starter motor and lockoff flywheel/ringgear to stop crank rotating.
