i read this in the paper this morning. interesting stuff, but at the back of my non-scientist mind i dont feel that we're ready for this kind of thing yet, lol!

nice link Mac, that guy tells us theyre firing particles so fast they travel around an 18-mile circut 11,000 times a SECOND!!! wish i could get my z that fast

they tried running this experiment last year and it blew the mounts off a 20 tonne magnet and they had to evacuate the place, it's based on Steven Hawking's paper he wrote about black holes in the seventies but Mr Hawking has recently said he was wrong about his findings and that this experiment shouldn't go ahead.

It was nice knowing you all lol.

  scary shit....

i find this sort of stuff really interesting... i also find it interesting that the stuff they test or experiment with are things that have been spoken about by people such as steven hawkins and einstein etc some many many moons ago... yes these are clever blokes, but think of the world of unimaginable stuff that they didnt think of!

i read about an einstein theory which involved slowing down the speed of light using some crazy substance which is just above absolute zero at -272.blah kelvin and is sort of in between all states of liquid gas and solid (a mush lol) and firing lasers through it.. they tried it recently and slowed the speed of light down to the speed of a bicycle...

my line of work is generally predominantly driven by science so this sort of thing grabs my attention... i have been following the collide project for a while... i find it funny that they have no idea what could happen, crack the earth, produce a black hole, blah blah... for the peeps carrying out the experiment its a win win situation... if it fails... we'll all be doomed so no1 can critise them for fookin up, if it works, they'll all be heroes!

do it i say, see what happens and give me a front row seat ticket!

what a pile of shite C.E.R.N. is a fantastic facility so much better than Fermilab expically with the new state of the art LHC. Give me a sparticle people!!!

Wikipedia is great for stuff like this. Micro Black Holes are possible but even the LHC isnt guaranteed to produce one. If this twists your melon, read up on teleportation which believe it or not has been achieved at particle level!

Well I've made parts for this machine ;) The actual tubes that the particles pass through have 24K gold plated ends laser welded to each end. 2 per tube, each tube is 10M in length? 25km of them hehe

So if it blows up, it wasn't me :D
