Once again Marks amateur mechanic brain has been working overtime!

Been on SXOC forum and they talk about catch tanks!

I know there was the disreputed breather system used a while ago, but does that not mean we can't use catch tanks!Or does it!

Why can't we just vent the fumes to air, like a lot of systems do!

If I don't start somewhere, I will never get anywhere!

Venting the fumes to air would be ok BUT, the smell inside the car wouldn't really be very nice... wink.gif

ok Andy,

What about to a catch tank then, or venting to the rear of the engine by the gearbox!

I've just put nice new intercoolers on and the old ones had a film of oil lining them.

Wouldn't one of these catch thingies or venting it to air stop this happening and keep the coolers working at their best?

Could you not vent them via a pipe to the bottom of the car like a 2nd exhaust?

The fumes would not do you any good.

You should be able to fit a catch tank.

Then every so often you have to empty it out.

I was thinking would it possible to site them inside the wing where the useless AIV's are?

Depends on how big the tanks are, not alot of room behind the wheel arch liner! AIV's are much smaller than I imagined.

The only trouble would be emptying the tanks, you could up a bit of thin tubing to the base and attach a tap outside of the wheel arch or the inner wing!

I think you only need about 1/2 -1 liter volume for it to work?

I presume you would need one for each bank of cylinders.

Also I think the stink would venture up the A post to the passenger arear so you would have to vent it throught the holes in the inner wing for the AIV tubes.
