last night i took my zed for a blast down the m65 doin **mph no problem, then flawed it and all it did was hit the redline (its an auto)eased off and tried again and still did the same,it was as if it just didnt want to bite, is there a chance of my clutch starting to go?it has never slipped or anything like that at lower speeds!!!!! does anyone know if the gearbox/clutch has any kind of sensor that could possibly be faulty. any ideas thanks terry.:confused::confused:

When you say m65 - don't you mean 'I drove down the M65 to a private test track'?:x:

Please remember this is a public forum and driving irresponsibly is frowned upon by not only the police, but many forum members too and you never know who is reading your posts.:headvswal

I am just giving some friendly advice as people in the past have been prosecuted for admitting excessive speed in public internet forums. We all like to exploit the power of these cars - thats why bought them too - just save the excessive stuff for the dragstrip or trackdays.:slap:

Right, back to your question. readline in top for an auto is in excess of 180mph probably closer to 200mph so the heat generated by that would be massive. You will probably find that once everything cooled down again it will be fine.

Sounds like its missing overdrive, or when its trying to change into overdrive its slipping. If you use partial throttle, but let it accelerate, does it climb up through the gears?

(Actually sounds like its kicking down into the wrong gear more than anything)

Possibly worth checking the fluid and filters for the autobox maybe also worth an autobox ecu diagnostic see if any codes are coming from the transmission, failing those id say the 'box was about the buy the farm as it were.

Hi Tezz,

Just a small point as I noticed nobody else has answered your original question. You've got an auto box ,so no, your clutch aint slipping cos you aint got one mate:D Probably was fluid overheating as Quavey and Stevie said.

If I've thrashed mine for a bit it feels a bit underpowered till it cools down. I read on here somewhere that the transmission oil cooler pipes on the Z are prone to blockage so probably worth checking that out

Might see you around mate, cos I live in Leyland. Bog standard silver Z on a "G"

plate:D

Cheers Maz.

Mine went like that - redlined in 1st and 3rd gears; then it appeared fine when coming off the gas.

It turned out that 2nd and 4th had "vanished" and the cure was a full rebuild......

£1200 later and it's better than ever! I hope your's is not so serious.....

Richard:cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

yeah its fine using partial throttle and climbs through the gears no problem it only had a new gearbox sept 2007 and has only done 3000 miles since the box has upgraded torque converters apparently????? the fluid seems to be ok it is pink will check filters though and i will be taking it for a test thanks

no it wasnt the limiter it has been de-restricted

Id check the tranny oil level first, then make sure it is decent, not burnt, low or fluffy, if so change it.

Low oil / shit oil can sometimes make it seem to slip.

Other than that torque convertor ****ed?

1200 sounds right for a s/h or recon, but expect 2k for a nice job, so cheaper to go manual for 700ish of parts.
