Hi All,

I suspect I won't get an answer to this now Duffer has been banned (what a sad loss to this site, anyone know if he's haunting an alternative site?) Anyway, I'm hoping someone can offer a definitive answer/confirmation...

I've had some injector problems which have lead me to consider the fuel system as a whole. I believe that the injectors have a common power/signal supply and all pulse simultaneously, I also suspect that if a single injector goes down or is unplugged that the rest will receive a larger signal and inject more fuel leading to a rich mixture on the 'good' cylinders and unburnt fuel. This would explain a lot, can anyone confirm that this indeed correct?

Thanks in advance.

HUH?!? duffers been banned??! :wack:

one injector going down wont affect the others, from memory they have a common feed & the ecu controls the flow by pulsing the earth line.

it would be more than likely something like a coolant temp sensor or air mass sensor etc that would cause the ecu to overfuel

Yep, agree with Paul - there is a 12v (I think) supply at the injectors and they pulse sequentially, not simultaneously.

Ok, thanks guys - hats off to ya ;-)

As has been pointed out to me elsewhere, I'm thinking of an old system of simultaneous injection rather than sequential, I assumed our old motors were pre sequential...

The injectors do indeed have an unswitched permanent 12 volt so are live even with the ignition switched off.

The ecu switches the earth line to the injectors simultaneously when the engine first started and then changes to sequential for more effeciency, any single injector issue will not effect the other five, however poor connections at the plenum earth point at the rear can lead to voltage variations.

Very interesting (no, really!)

I guess I'm going to have to think some more.
