I have given up trying to find some S2 UK clocks for my car so am going to by some more common S1 clocks and actually swap the dial faces over.

The only problem is the odometer will stil be in km's.

Is it possible and if so legal to swap the odometer over?

I have managed to find a set that has done just over the miles min has done.

just adjust the mileage to suit yours. its not illegal to adjust the mileage its just illegal if you claim it is genuine mileage when selling it on.

Sorry, maybe I wasnt clear.

I will have to keep my JDM clocks - I am going to dismantle the UK clocks and take the guage faces out of the UK housing and put them in my JDM housing.

The problem with that is my odometer is still reading in km's. Can I also take the odometer out of the UK Clocks and put it into my JDM clocks?

I may be missing the point you're trying to make, so sorry if thats the case :)

But why don't you just do what i did and buy a delimiter from zcentre and blank out the k on the clock face and leave it as m/h. Your clocks will then read in mph and the odometer runs in miles aswell. That way you don't need to change any dials or anything! :D

As I understood it, a delimeter can play havoc with the Hicas, and my hicas works fine so I dont want to disable it.

Oh ok, i see :) Can i just say though, mine has been delimited for about 18 months now and i have never had a problem, but i can understand why you want to keep it as it is :)

A quick question regarding what you are doing :)

What are you adding to make it work in MPH? As adding uk faces to a jap unit won't make it work in mph.

I am pretty sure it will as it is a conversion others have done here. I am just interested in the odometer really.

Surely changing the dials themselves won't do anything  As all the wiring within the unit is still the same. Also the odo will still work in kilometers as again nothing has been done to the wiring within the unit itself.

I could be wrong, but thats how it seems to me. Are you sure people have done what you are doing and it has worked? I always thought people changed the whole unit round, and put a uk in a jap car.

Exactly - that is the point of this post - can I swap the odometer too?

Yes that is what I would like to do, but my unit is a S2 which has different connectors - mine is also a rare airbag model. It means I cant just swap the whole units...

Hope this makes it clearer...:smash:

Ok Steve, i know it sounds like i'm going on and on, but i am trying to help you mate :wack: :)

This will be my last post in your thread, as like i have said on many other occasions, i'm no expert, lol :wack: It seems to me that swapping dials and individual odo's round will not do what you hope it will. Like i said i could be wrong but logic tells me thats the case.

It will work - ecu only sends a pulsed signal regardless of whether the car is euro/ jap/ etc... the clock that you put in converts the signal to a dial output... I believe that you can swap the odometer over too.. but not 100%... I think AndyP posted about it a long time ago...

just realised - he doesn't mean just swapping the dial faces - the entire unit... i.e. the gubbins too!

If you change the whole speedo unit it will, but just changing the dial face will not.

The R10 resistor in the back of the speedo can be changed, which will make the clock read in MPH, the KPH dial face at 30KPH will read as 30MPH, but you will need to calibrate it, using the pots on the board. The oddometer will then read in MPH cos the pulse is also changed.

I tried this mod and it wasnt very accurate without adjusting the pots on the board, so i bought a delimiter and works fine.

Heres a thread too, from when i did it.

then this:

also, it would seem that a working speedo, albeit in MPH or KM/H is nor needed for a MOT. the one in my volvo has said the same readings on the odomoter for number of years, nor has the speedo worked for years.

I have done this and I can tell you this:

If you just change the face then the speedo needle will still be opperating as if it were KPH. the whole unit will have to be a UK item or at least have a converter fitted. (see below)

A KPH clock/needle reacts faster than a MPH clock/needle would and therefore it will travel less distance around the face than a MPH one would. Thats why a KPH face has lots more numbers (potentially) than a MPH clock.

UNLESS: the new MPH face has been specially made to facilitate/compensate this. So yes it can be done but not a straight swap for any old UK face.

HTH. ;)

Yeah, you are quite correct Fusion. There is nothing (as far as I can see) in the VOSA requirements which relate to a functioning speedo/odo.
