Price for new turbo(s)

Bought my Z just over a week ago and i reckon a turbo is nackered.

The boost gauge reads like they're fine (hits 9.5psi nicely) but im assuming the boost is read from the side which has an OK turbo.

Just wondering how much this is gunna cost, im basically gunna get it done then sell the car. If i dont get it done it'll be unsellable.

I reckon i get near to 10mpg which i just cant afford being 19 and earning no more than your average tramp.

Thanks

Rob

If you have one good turbo and one bad one then the gauge will typically report the net result which is 0psi. So probably not the turbo and time to start looking for other things, like perhaps dirty air filters and dead O2 sensors.

if one isn't spooling then you should read 0psi

as to cost i think its about £250 to recon the turbos and £650 labour to have them fitted. You may as well do both at the same time though.

they are expensive cars, always research before you get into something like this smile.gif

deffo something wrong with the mpg - mine (unmodded except for Mongoose) gets 20 - 24mpg depending on weight of right foot.

Thanks for the help guys! Are the intakes to the engine not seperate? ie. One turbo boosts 3 cylinders and the other boosts the other 3 allowing one side to be 9.5psi, the other 0psi.

I'm guessing what you're saying means the 2 systems are joined somewhere making the boost the same.

Is this the connection the standard boost gauge is connected to? I tried disconnecting it and the boost gauge still worked..Hmm!! lol

might help

AFAIK, the intake / turbo / exhaust systems are separate for each side. Sorry, I don't know which one the gauge uses - or how it averages across both sides.

Fingers crossed for an expert....

Hi Rob,

There is a black 'balance' pipe that join the intake chambers together. This is the one right at the back of the plenum chamber - has a few vacuum pipes coming out of it - one of them being the one for the boost gauge.

Regards

...The boost gauge is a little rectangular box in the back left corner of the engine bay (as you look at it from the front. - will have ONE vacuum pipe and ONE three pin connector going to it - held in place with one metal screw and one plastic screw I believe.

Cheers again
