PC Help please...................

Got Broadband ADSL Modem plugged in and all works well most of the time, however, on occasions it loses the link and i have narrowed it down to the USB port as after doing a couple of tests found that my printer which is also run from the other USB also loses connection. What can i do, does it need configuring or is it a problem with the motherboard ? Any help appreciated.

One other thing, sometimes if i unplug the USB and plug it back in i get the link back but not always.

Cheers boys and girls.

What make is your motherboard?

Usually there are driver updates on thier site. Newer Motherboards tend to change the drivers regular basis.

How/where can i get the make/model from?

Bob where u bought it from should know if not eamil me the detail ill find out 4 u

You went

Right. After you have installed the program run it and you will see a window with lots of Icons. Double click on the one thats called Mainboard Information. There is all the info about your computer. You want the

Manufacture and Model under the heading of System Mainboard.

It will be like Gigabyte, Asus (Asustek), A-Bit, MSI, they are the most popular.

Then goto the manufactures site and click on download or support. You probably be faced with a list of Motherboards. find and click on yours there should be a list of dirvers there. If you are stuck, send me the manufacutre and model and I will look.

jetway 694x-596b-ali513x

chipset via vt 82c694x apollo pro133

any help welcome as i am about to drop it!!

Do you know if you have either a pentium 2/3 or a celeron which fits to the board by a slot?

from looking at this:

http://www.via-c3.ru/products/C3/vml.shtml

scroll to jetway.

then looking on the jetway site it seems you have this:

http://www.jetway.com.tw/evisn/product/slot1_370/994/994.htm

the numbers given correspond anyways! smile.gif

I cant look into anymore detail at the mo i have to disappear, someone will be along soon who can maybe clarify.

on a different note...the Panasonic CQDFX802, how does the screen thing work on that? is the entire thing like a touch sensitive display? thats what it seems from *limited* info available. Could you let me know anymore info?

NOW BACK TO COMPUTERS FOR THE REST OF YOU smile.gif

If none of the above work you could try a USB powered HUB:

25577.jpg about £30 from Scan( http://www.scan.co.uk/ .

I had the same USB issues - the motherboard wouldnt power down the modem correctly and when it did it wouldnt power the thing back on again! With a powered USB hubthe motherboard doesnt need to power your devices.

Three suggestions

1. Get a PCI USB controller and see if that helps (should be cheap and easy)

2. Reistall the OS and drivers, the problem could be caused by software (pain in the ass)

3. Get a non USB (Ethernet) ADSL adapter, (better stability and you will never look back).

PS I am selling a Alcatel Home ADSL adapter in mid October if anyone wants one. This is the slightly bigger brother of the sperm shaped USB thing BT uses. It is a ethernet device and is capable of higher speed than the BT one (not that BT is capable of higher speed) I imported it from the US, bug will not need it when I go back. Sorry for the shameless advertising.

Dont most Modems have USB and Rj-45 Connetors on it? I know mine has.

Bob, had similar problems.. if it's the alcatel modem, the firmware on the device means that it *must* be plugged directly into the PC or a USB capable DSL router (like the Draytek), it mustn't pass through hubs or printers, it will either fail regularly or just plain not work.. where's it plugged into, and what modem is it?

Think you'll be bashing youself over the head with this one until you change to a non-USB modem/router or change your chipset (ie motherboard). You might never resolve the problem with your current setup - sounds a bit defeatist I know, how much time do you wanna waste??

Had a similar problem with a PC I built for the GF on the cheap. Works out a lot cheaper (if you value your time) to change the hardware (modem in her case) - you're probably stuck with the USB router so you'll have to change your MB - sorry, probably not what you want to hear.

Cheers!

cheers guys,

using the BT Voyager USB ADSL Modem but as i`m having probs getting the thing to see my Digi Cam as a camera and not a number! i`m going to try using Windows XP and probably a new motherboard, that will be a new pc then as i`ve upgraded/changed everything else in the last couple of weeks.
