well played bud... keep at it and make sure you have a laugh too ;) i managed to swindle a CAA approved advanced composite repair course not so long ago, as always they expected me to hit the ground running and i now keep getting stupidly complex repair schemes for down times of 20+ hours and get around 8 hours to do it :smw: still good to get another trade under my belt... looks like its gonna be big too... the new 787 is pretty much 90+% carbon fibre... the fuselage is made from carbon fibre ffs! imagine a skin repair on that from an over zealous service truck!

Ha ha yeah i really enjoying myself and having a laugh with everyone i work with....Its a good thing to get into i think espec with the 787 on its way.....plus the A320 series have composite flight controls i do believe! So far all i have been stuck with is bloody honeycomb! As for getting complex repairs i have only been getting silly little ones but not bad since i joined the shop on tuesday morning, the lad that joined with me has only been allowed watch the lad that he is with! Got four lovely corroded engine cowls off a russian 737 300series tomorrow so starting on the carbon fibre tomorrow!!

ive tried to read this thread, but halfway through all the comosite and numbers my mind wandered back to porn lol

Ha ha thanx stella! Remember internet gave you the porn not the computer so treat it wise....you dont want virus's

is it true that the tail fins are glued on???

lol.. if you mean the rudder... it is bolted at each hinge point, though as its then all composite, the hinges are essentially glued on yes.. (depending on the aircraft of course)

on a 787... im pretty sure eveything is glued, it has very little metal, even the floor beams are carbon fibre. its a bit like a lotus elise of the skies!

Ha well essentially the technical name would be glue....i got shouted at today for saying glue.......it is structural adhesive! Should we tell him the engine is only held on through two mounts??

Ha suppose close enough....still think the A320's are mental that all the pilot does is take off and climb to 100feet and then the sutopilot can do the rest even land!

pilots could have been obsolete a while ago now... they are only really there because no **** would fly on an aircraft with no pilot LOL  though they do come in handy when things go wrong!

No there was a crash when the top half of the fuselage peeled back. The captain managed to land the plane and only was casulty which was an air hostess was sucked out of the whole and her body was never found!
