had the car now for 4yrs and to be honest spent a fair amount on her so looking to keep long term.

 

Only thing is shes now done 133K and im wondering how long that engine will keep going for (turbs already change about 5k ago tho).

 

Also the cambelt has only done about 11k, but is now about 4yrs old.

 

1) Does anyone know roughly how much it costs to replace and how often this should be done?

 

2) Ive got simple mods really, zorst, air intake, rps flywheel, new stock turbs, rps street clutch. I was toying with the idea of having her boosted slightly and the engine rebuilt...anyone got a rough idea of how much that would cost. i wasnt going for huge power just to what the standard turbs and mods ive done can handle.

I did a cambelt change and service myself a few months ago, think it cost about £250 - £300 for the kit.

Not sure about the timescales for a cambelt change, but I think after 4 years you should get it done just to be safe.

Personally, instead of rebuild, i`d get a good 2nd hand engine, swap yer tubs over & get a new loom etc.My addled little brain seems to think you`re near brentwood for some reason. If so, you have a very good guy near you,can p.m the no. if you wish! Oh! n change the belt & do a 120k service if you chose to go down that road

Hi Dan,

 

For peace of mind I would suggest you opt for a 120K Service Kit and get the ancillary belt kit as well (look at OEM002 & OEM003+ on www.smithys-place.co.uk/oem.php). There is no reason why the VG30DE(TT) engine isn't good for many more happy motoring miles if it has been looked after throughout its lifetime.

 

If you feel you want to go for a mild rebuild then have a look at item PER017 on www.smithys-place.co.uk/engperf.php. This is the basic rebuild kit and contains some elements of the 120K service kit. Should you wish to go down this route then rather than buy both a 120K kit and rebuild kit I can supplement the rebuild kit with the parts required for the 120K kit.

 

Like Santa suggested, you may be well advised to opt for a new Engine and EFI loom if you rebuild the engine - this will save a lot of hassle when it comes to reinstalling the engine.
