Complete electrical failure............why?

Been out in the car tonight, and parked up to take my dog for a walk, left the car for 3/4 of an hour got in and nothing!

Opened the door to check under the bonnet and power came back:confused:

Tried to start, total loss of elecs again:confused::confused:

Opened bonnet to check loose conn on battery but all ok:confused:

Got back in the car and started sweet as a nut [although demask system a bit:confused:stuck half way in]

Drove back towards home and total power loss again engine cut out ...nothing at all:rant: tried to bump start the car as i was going along but nothing, then suddenly ignition lights come on and i started the car!

Any thoughts recommendations?

Dave

my fiesta rs 1800 used to do this, it was the plug from the ignition to the wiring harness that was at fault

How did you find that then alan?

i asked my mate to ask o a forum lol, apperently its a common fault on mk3 fiesta's, they work loose and corrode, i just done away with the plug and hard wired it

it's prob not the same as a zed, but it does sound like something may be loose somewhere

If you want to prove a bad earth use a jump lead from the battery to a good ground on the engine,Secure it so you can shut the bonnet and drive it.The earth runs along the scuttle is bolted there and then runs down the back of the engine and bolts to the passenger side of the bellhousing. You can get to it with the battery out.

Quick update for those who care:tongue: looked deeper into the battery connectors this afternoon and may have found my problem!

The positive battery clamp has snapped at the bottom,[it is made up from 2 rings] and this poss could be my problem as i said.

Made quick repair and took the car out for an hour...................seems ok! so have asked Mike feeney for cost of this and will replace as necessary.

Thanks for the help and fingers crossed:D
