Hey all

My gearbox grinds intermittently going forwards and backwards almost always at low speed in high gear etc.

It feels loose and jerky etc etc I'm guessing my synchros are tired. Still changes and all gears work but its noisy and just not very crisp. Lets the whole car down.

So what do I do? Z1 do a box delivered to the uk for 2450 dollars. but add fitting and were into close to 2k pounds. Sounds alot for a gearbox?? what about rebuilds any one had any experience of manual rebuilds? or do I roll the dice and go second hand?

Cheers guys any advice gratefully recieved.

The altenative is to go for the OS Giken Gear and sincro cluster upgrade. This is about £800 from the UK distributor then it'll cost about another £350 to have the work done. but well worth it.

Short term you can drain the oil off and refill with Red line MT90. This will hide the crunchy gear change. However it wont cure it it will prolong its servicable use.

Or you can just get used to double declutching and syncronising the gear change on the revs

will the MT stop the grinding noises you get as your driving along? mine is most noisy when your on the move for example going up hill in any gear loose speed dont change down put foot on gas and go from low revs to high and it sounds like metal rubbing / grinding etc. How much do you need for gearbox fluid change?

Personally I would just go 2nd hand, but buy one you can test first. Noises and/or syncro problems are still very rare for Manual boxes.

If however you went for the brand new box then its a 98+ version which has an improved design with better syncros. Fitting should cost no more than £250, so you would be looking at around £1500 inclusive. (£1250 box and shipping + £250 fitting labour)

Zedworld were holding a box for me for a local guy who's still dithering about it. Anyways it came of a UK spec with only 25k on it, yep 25K

Can't remember the price cos i wern't buying it, so give them a ring and ask if you like, cos am bored waiting on my mate to decide and feel they were just holding it for me. http://www.zedworld.co.uk/wizzc.html

Hey all

Had a response from Z1 they said the would do the gearboxes for $1600 each if they had 10 buyers plus $350 delivery on each. That makes a total of $1950 delivered to the uk which is £986 pounds delivered to your address of choice. Anyone interested?
