Main Entry: chasm

Pronunciation: \'ka-z*m\ (*\ pronounced as e in kitten)

Function: noun

Etymology: Latin chasma, from Greek; akin to Latin hiare to yawn — more at yawn

Date: 1596

1 : a deep cleft in the surface of a planet (as the earth) : gorge

2 : a marked division, separation, or difference

So you are right!!

You are right, their version sounds like it could be US based, much like their version of chassis !

Without looking it up , it always seems to be pronounced kaz-m ( two syllables )

Fook , bed-time ( another two syllables )

:rofl::rofl:

chasm (KAZ-um) noun

1. A deep hole; gorge.

2. A sudden interruption, discontinuity.

3. A difference of ideas, beliefs, or opinions.

[Latin chasma from Greek khasma.]

"Today all of us do, by our presence here, and by our celebrations in

other parts of our country and the world, confer glory and hope to newborn

liberty. ... The time for the healing of the wounds has come. The moment

to bridge the chasm that divides us has come."

It is Pronounced Kazum, But to save argument next time don't use such posh words and just say her Fanny is BIG:shock:

Slightly off topic- I regularly attend Classic Car Shows run by Andrew Greenwood- the 'compere' called ' Les' always refers to certain vehicles as Coops- not Coopays - anyone else ever come across this. BTW I know the spelling is actually Coupe ( & an acute accent!)

I always assumed that pronouncing it 'coop' was just a *******ised/lazy/anglicised way of saying 'coopay'... bit like saying 'just off down the caff for a fry up'

Yeh- am sure our old friend Mike Brewer must say Coop- just as he calls Wolseleys - 'Wooseys' - couldn't believe my ears when I heard it.
