Is it possible to change just by jacking the front up or need a ramp ?

We had the alternator checked by a battery shop and no charge going into battery at all, the battery light on the dash does not light up which is a bit odd as it should do if not charging.

If the bulb was blown that would stop it charging but as this light does not come on when ignition turned on its a bit hard to tell !, i guess the only way is to strip the instruments and check the bulb !

I personally find it easiest to remove the radiator + fan

it will give you good access to the alternator.

remove the belt, remove the top bolt of the lower bracket, remove the main top bolt holding the alternator (the nut on the back of the alternator will usually fall on the ground)

Remove the alternator and pull it forwards, undo all connectors/wires.

the only PITA is putting back the nut securing the main bolt on the back of the alternator.

Best is to move the alternator as far to the left as it will go, that way you can reach the back of the bolt holding the alternator and get the nut into position

odd things happening...driving me mad, please help:hurl:

Just jack up front and support wheels on stands, and rear wheels on blocks.

i found that i only need to remove the fan shroud, slacken of the adjuster first, this is held onto a clamp. Remove it, and remember how it is arranged, makes easier when refiftting, remove the electrical plug.

It is held by two 14mm nuts on the upper of the alternator, the front is easy to get to, but the rear one is awkward. once you can loosen both bolts, using a pry bar or simialr( old broom handle is good) from top of engine ease alternator downwards, then the belt can be removed, then you can access the rear nut more easily. it may be the case with belt off its easier if you push the alternator fully upwards to get to the bolt to remove.

If this helps i will try and do some pics of it all this eveing.

i changed mine with just the front end on a jack and axle stands. it was a bit tight dropping the alternator out past whatever bar was under it and hard work getting the new one back in whilst lying on your backwith it an inch above your face,

i found a good guide on replacing it :
