Hi All,

I am currently having similar problems to "Bird" on the forum about what to do and who to tune my car once it is completed.

After speaking to Dan (dta) he has explained that it will be impossible to supply me with a chip to run in my car in the early stages of running the engine in as I have JWT 400+ race cams.

I am going for a stand alone ECU which I am undecided on at the moment.

I am very unsure what to do as without having an ECU already mapped to run my mods, how can I run it in to iron out the problems before it is mapped properly??

I understand if i dont have the right ECU it is unwise to try and start the car.

Otherwise taking it to the tuners without knowing if its going to start would turn out to be expensive and a waste of time.

Please help!

Cheers

Dan

Speak to John Dixon. He is by far the most experienced stock ECU tuner we have on board, and will most likely be able create a "get you going/running in map" for you to use at first.

Once you know everything is working, you could then either go with john to get it mapped properly on a Rolling road, or install the standalone ECU and trailer it to a dyno to get mapped (no need to have it running with the standalone beforehand as you've already had it running with stock mapped ECU).

btw - Cams are not going to have that much affect on the ECU map, in terms of getting it started and even as much as running in the engine. Any ECU chip mapped to the correct injector size will have you running, no matter what cams are in there, but you dont want to be driving around on full boost or full throttle without correct mapping.

You could try AndyP as well, he is only just the road from you and may be able to sort you out.

Good luck with t.

Ditto, always thought the 400 cams were a reground stock and basicaly a stage 1 upgrade, cam wise.

A chip to suit the other mods i see no reason why it wouldn't do and certainly long enough to meet up with JD to fine tune it.

Pretty sure Andyp can't map a stock ECU he just deals in the chips he's done, but am happy to be corrected :D

Hi thanks for your replys!

So if im reading this right all i will need is a chip to run my 740cc injectors?

(Smithy) Im not sure in what you mean by stage 1 cams?

I have found some info on them hope this helps.

JWT Camshafts.

The 400+ "Wild Cams" from Jim Wolf Technology. These camshafts are brand new billets and styled after the "later" size cams.

The R400+ Cam set for the Nissan 300zx VG30 is an excellent choice for 450-650 Hp cars. These are 264 Deg/375" Lift with a +4 Degree advance on the exhaust cams. Must use JWT springs and the 90-93 cars will need the sprocket adapters.

I have the same cams in mine. I had JD create me a running in chip, as close as possible to my mods 615inj, 400 cams etc. Which is now run in by doing 800-1000 miles. The next stage for me would is probably to get Thor to install (think its the Link system) and have it tuned to its full potential.

When I spoke to Thor, they did say they can run the car in if needed, I presume its done on the Dyno system.

Some more info on chips and 400 cams. Any chip will have trouble getting the car to idle correctly unless other parameters are compromised to make allowances for the cams. This goes against our ethos of providing chips that are safe and reliable under all conditions. That's the reason why DTA won't be able to provide a chip on this occassion.

Dan what i mean is they are not by any means an agressive cam, as stage upgrades of cams go, the 400 is stage 1, that does not mean that they basic or anything, it's just that Zed cams are pretty good with many high horse powerd zeds leaving them well alone, so a stage 1 cam is still a mighty upgrade.

But yes to confirm what legrath was saying, given that they are not mega agressive, a 740cc chip IMO would be perefctly fine to get you running and run the engine in or until you meet up with JD.

Bazza's chip would have been more to suit because he is using a more unusual CC injector.

For complete peace of mind, just ask JD what he thinks as he knows more about mapping these ECU's than anybody i know

Edit, just read Dan's post, you deffo need to contact JD now, lol
