My experience of dealings with Insurance Factory...

All information below is my account of having a policy with the Insurance Factory

My Z is a 1991 Twin Turbo 2+2 import

Following recommendation from people on here I contact Gareth at the Insurance Factory. (NOTE - is was my decision to take a policy with Insurance Factory - hence I place no blame on anyone here or 300zx.co.uk)

I ask for a classic "second car policy" like the type Glen(Senna) got. Told that is fine and that as its a classic car policy my 5 years No Claims can stay on my second car.

I pay my £180 deposit and arrange to pay £71 per month.

I recive a cover note valid from the 30th April to 15th June

Nearing the 10th of June I enquire where my Certificate of motor Insurance is. Told there is a delay because I have not sent proof of my No Claims bonus - I state that it is not required as this is a Classic Policy. Insurance Factory check and say "sorry this policy is based on your 5 years No Claims".

I speak to Gareth, he investigates. Replys saying I need to put my 5 years No Claims on this policy - but to say me removing my No Claims from my Celica he suggested the Insurance Factory can insure both cars with 5 years No Claims applied to each - Great I thought.

15th of June passes - Insurance Certificate now out of Date.

Call Insurance Factory asking where is new Insurance Cert as Car Tax runs out end of June.

Informed they need proof of my 5 years No Claims to send a full Insurance Cert - Inform then of what was said by Gareth - Spoke to Gareth, informed me he they cannot insure both my cars with 5 years no Claims each.

Call Admiral ask them to remove the 5 years No Claims from my Celica Policy. Pay the £235 extra.

Recive Admirals Cert of my 5 years No Claims - send this to the Insurance Factory.

Call the Insurance Factory asking for my Cert of Insurance as the end of the month was approcing and I needed to get my Car Tax.

Told by Insurance Factory that they had sent my proof of No Claims to ANO and I should recive my Cert of Insurance any day now.

Called Insurance Factory in the middle of July asking for my Insurance Cert - They would chase and call me back.

Called Insurance Factory stating that it is urgent I get a Cert of Insurance for Tax. Told they would investigate and call me back.

Called Insurance Factory at the start of August asking where my cert of Insurance is. Told again that they will investigate and chase up.

Called Insurance Factory in the middle of August asking for a cert of Insurance - I also asked if a Temp Cover Note would be quicker - was told a temp cover note should be quicker and they would get one sent out.

Called Insurance Factort stating that I NOW NEED a Cert of Insurance as I have a producer for the 30th Aug. Informed a Cert of Insurance would be sent ASAP.

Call up again to be told as soon as they recieve the Cert of Insurance from ANO they will forward it to me - they could not tell me when they would recieve the cert.

Call up again stating I need a Cert of Insurance by Fri(today) for producer(also Tax). Informed it would be sent by registered post on Thur 29th. I take morning off work to sign for it - Call Insurance Factory at 11am to check, was told they had not received it so nothing was posted!

Informed that a Cert of Insurance would be sent by registered post by Fri 30th(today). Also that I need to re-send them the proof of my No Claims as ANO did not recive the document from the Insurance Factory!

Today I recive a Cert of Insurance!!

Go to the Post Office to get Tax(to drive to cop shop). Post Office lady says this Insurance Certificate is out of date!!

At this time you can imagine my attitude towards the Insurance Factory by now

Inform Police that my Cert arrived but is now out of date - but does cover me on the date the producer was issued - get asked for a current Insurance Cert, I give them the contact number for Insurance Factory.

Call Insurance Factory informing them the Cert I recived is out of date and usless for getting tax(Cert ran out on the 29th Aug).

Told a Cert will be sent to for tomorrow(Sat 31st) or Monday the 2st September (work out how long without no Tax).

This, from my point of view is some of worst customer service I have ever experienced.

How long do they expect people to go without a Cert of Insurance(which is require by the Road Traffic Act)?

Will they pay the £1000 fine(or whatever is the current rate) for driving without no tax?

If I do not recive a Cert of Insurance tomorrow or Monday I will cancel my Policy with the Insurance Factory. I'am also looking into the option of Informing the Insurance Ombudsman Bureau and the Association of British Insurers with regard to this debacle

Now as I mentioned, this is my record of my dealings with the Insurance Factory - make of it what you will.

I know many people are happy with the company - I myself even passed the number onto Craig this week as he is looking for quotes, but right now my thoughts on the Insurance Factory are not favorable to say the least.

Thanks for reading. (Craig/Nico if anything in this has legal ramifications let me know)

That's W4NK mate. But what happened to the documents they were waiting for from your other insurance company?

Had they been sent or not?

Hmm.

I cancelled as they couldnt inusre the GTR, they never sent me a policy in months and currently owe me alot of money for a policy I paid up front for and subsequently cancelled.

Oh well. No more recommendations for mr insurance factory me thinks... I have just told their customer services about this post too.

Tell me about it - been trying to get insured all week with the factory - had a nightmare.

Calls not made when promised, seemingly incapable people on the other end of the line that could not grasp simple concepts and a general lack of efficiency.

I told the lady I was dealing with my car was an import 3 times- once a month ago when getting quotes, again 3 days ago when she realised she'd quoted for a non import and then again when she AGAIN had quoted for a non import!!

This is after another representative had given me all the details of the policy I was about to take out. I'd foolishly assumed that on the 3rd go she'd realised the car was an import. Which bit of YES IT'S AN IMPORT do they not get??

Turns out they won't insure people under 25 on import zeds anyway so at least it seems I was saved future ineptitude.

My favourite bit was when she rang me on my mobile and then asked for my mobile telephone number!!! HAHAAHA

Finally went with Adrian Flux- seem to be doing a good job so far - time will tell.

I'm with Adrian Flux, started the policy on 26 June and still haven't recieved cert of ins.

My tax was due yesterday (thurs) and I left it a bit late before realising I had no certificate, phoned them on Weds and I had a temporary cover note by the thursday morning, jobs a good-un.

Well done Adrian Flux, sort of.

hmm, cant say we had any problems with them, we got a temp cover note to give us time to have the security syste fitted, which we did, sent them the certificate back, and we got all the neccesary documents. But after hearing all this not sure if they will be top of the list next time around!

Timmy - I did send them my proof of 5 years no claims, but it never reached ANO(who the policy is with).

Insurance Factory claimed to have sent my No Claims proof to ANO but since stated that ANO never recived my documents - hence me having to send out another copy.

It would have been good for them to call me to inform me they had lost my documents in the post - instead of me chasing up to find out.

Trev

i am currently calling round some insurers as mine is due shortly

however, i am also enquiring about a club discount scheme with a couple of them

and yes, it will have to include imports on the same or very close terms, as well as mods..

have a couple of calls being returned on monday, so hopefully......

Have you tried A-Plan. When I phoned them they where the cheapest straight off by £80 or so. Most places asked me what my cheapest quote was then said the usual, "Oooo if I can meet it we will be making a loss"

They also said that they will do any mod.

Just my 2 pence worth.

Stuart

I found the insurance factory people usless too. I phoned around 8-10 companies and got quotes ok. I gave my details to a chap on the saturday and was promised the quote by monday. Chased monday and was promised someone would phone me back later that day... Same on tuesday, same on wednesday...

Gave up in the end, absolutley useless customer service, obviously they did not want my money! The ony reason i was trying to get a quote as they were recommend on the forum... :-(

Went with AON in the end.

Barry

Went with AON in the end.

Barry, AON is the company Insurance Factory used for my policy - maybe its best I go direct.

What sort of Policy did you get with AON(classic/performance car)?

Are these the correct contact details:

Aon Limited,

8 Devonshire Square,

London EC2M 4PL

Tel: 020 7623 5500, Fax: 020 7621 1511 www.aon.co.uk

Thanks,

Trev

AON are also the company the Insurance Faculity insured me with on the Zed.

I think I shall go round there tomorrow and insert a large garden gnome in them.

Yours,

Basil.

double double post post

[This message has been edited by Gio (edited 31-08-2002).]

and then I think I'll go to Canada

I had a very similar experience with them but with my Thatcham Alarm cert.

I spoke to them about the fact that my car was having problems with the Alarm being fitted, they told me this was not a problem and gave me another 7 days. 3 days later the send me a recorded letter telling me they are cancelling my insurance. Great.

I still don't have the insurance certificate. They used AON for me also.

Trey,

Yep thats AON, they charged me £970 fully comp on 3 years NCB. Beating the next best by about £100+ (quotes started at about £1500). Just need to build my no cliams up and it wont be such a bitter bullet each year but so far it has been worth the £970 smile.gif

I am building up my NCB too, but how do you think I felt after another year of perfect driving I found Tesco upped my insurance by £100 confused.gif

Hmmmmm I didnt stay with them for very long.

Stuart

I just moved my policy from Norwich Union after 18 years. Moved an Audi 80 and My zed to the RAC and saved a total of £725. The z came out at about £770 inc protected NCB and RAC breakdown cover.

The service was impeccable, what you'd expect/desire.

They were a lot cheaper than all of the big names, even cheaper than most of the "less familiar" names.

Grant

My insurance finishes tomorrow... any other reccomendations welcome (for a car with mods)...

So far I see A-Plan, Firebond, AON and Adrian Flux is an option

I'm with the insurance factory and guess what

I haven't got an insurance cert after being with them for 4 months

Report them to the Insurers Ombudsman. Must be illegal not providing you with a certificate or at least a cover note!

Are you paying monthly? if you are I assume you have temp cover notes.?! smile.gif

Timmy is right, insurers ombudsman, companies shit themselves, and *apparently* they get charged £200 or something even if the ombudsman has to phone them up. More to investigate them, so insurers dont want the ombudsman on the case smile.gif
