One for the techies.

While I was sorting some minor surface rust on the edge of the rear offside wing I removed the wheel to make spraying easier.

Having a nose around and being impressed by the oil cooler on the diff ( and congrartulating myself again on choice of car etc etc) To my horror found the hose to one side of the cooler completely loose!

Having had the car since Nov last year I think its been loose for some time as it's bone dry on the hose end and on the nipple on the oil cooler.

Currently there is no noise from the diff so I assume there is still oil in it (I hope)

I know from earlier post that the motor is conditioned by temp of oil I think? I assume the motor is not running as it woudl spew out oil and the diff would go belly up I guess.

Any ideas?

I booked it in for a service and hopefully the warranty will cover any repair ...

Hey Glenn,

Ahh the stomach churning joy of discovering, loose hoses, dripping coolant , Con Rods dangling from engine Etc, while doing routine chores.

The Diff oil is quite easy to check simply get under the car undo the plug and stick a finger in - not to scientific but if you can feel oil your level it fine.

The Lines which i think you are refering to is the Oil Cooler lines on the Differential, if you look up the Rear Offside you will see a small oil cooler, the pump to which is mounted up and above of the cooler. If you have been driving like a good boy at speeds less than 75mph the pump will not operated. Check for signs of oil around the diff, if there is none, check the operation of the pump there could be a problem there, but as you can imagine keep the speed below 75 till you can afford to get it fixed. Deffinatly not a problem with your motor and not a serious problem full stop. Just make sure the Diff has enuff oil in it and you will be fine.

I hope i have the correct pipes but theses are all i can think of that come off the differential.

Nico,

Thanks for the info, yes your right it is the area i'm rfering to and no I hant been a good boy ...

There is a small oil leak from around the front of the diff (which im having sorted at the smae time)

either theres no oil in the diff (should be hraring whiney grinding noises I assume ...)

or the pump is not operating and hence dry loose line.

Glenn.
