Any one put torsion bushes on themsleves?

Any tips? Whats that little tube of goo for? to put them on easier?

Hi

Yep I did. You need the goo to help it slip in!!.

Also when you press in the stainless steel insert at the end of the job - you smear it with rubber lube.

One thing absolutely necessary is a big vice. Also dont worry when it (the bush)goes all out of shape and only seems the be going in on one side. I re started so many times cos it wanted it to go in evenly. It just doesnt. It needs to be square on to start and then brute force with the vice as quick as poss or it pops right out and bongs out of the vice! It looks like its going in all skew then miraculously plops in straight once you've got it 7/10ths the way in.

I had some trouble getting the long bolt at the front end back in place but its doable.

Gook luck

Yes, I have a really big vice that will do the job, but at the moment I am having trouble taking the bar off. Any tips for this. I have spent an hour trying to get off that bar that goes through the middle, it just wont budge. Is it easier to disconnect the bar at the other end first?

Right. Help anyone.

Any ideas on how to get the old bush out of the bar?

Stuart

You care gonna struggle with the bar on the car, sod that.

I just took all my rear subframe and rear suspension bushes out to fit new Whiteline ones and i used a drill, hacksaw and chisles to get them out.

Ideally just take the bars to somewhere that'll press them out for you, and press the new ones in if you have new crappy Nissan ones.

No I have the bar off now, and I just got the bush out. But does any one know If I have to take the ring out too thats in the bar?

Stuart

I'd say so yeah, I took a hack saw to bits, fed the blade into the hole, reassembled the saw then cut through the inner shell, then whacked it out with hammer and chisles.

Jezz is spot on!!!!

Get stuck in with a drill and drill so many holes in that leaking rubber that the middle can be pushed out. You can then use a chisel to carefully peel the edge or sleeve of the bush insert away from the hole in the rod end. It should buckle and loosen and fall out - or you can use a hacksaw. The chisel worked for me.

If you had bother getting the long bolts thru the bushes out it will be eaven tougher getting them back in cos the new bush is stiffer than the soggy old ones. You have to use brute force and nudge the I/C mounts a bit

Willie

Burn it out - ooh baby, the flames! biggrin.gif

or smash it wiv an ammer

AAAAHHHH bolocks to that polly bushing shite, what you want is some solid(rose joint) adjustable ones!!! no more pressing bushes in, you can also adjust your castor with the solid ones too!

will be making some soon! so watch this space
