HICAS issue!

Okidoki chaps this is probably an easy one! Car failed MOT had 2 Bent Hicas arms and worn bushes! When i had these Hicas light would pop on occasionaly usually when i 1st start up the car in the morning!

Anyways got these changed and new arms + bushes! So as it should be NO Hicas Wahey! But when i go for long Motorway Journeys it comes on and stays on for the whole journey! Usually takes around 10mins of Motorway driving to come on regardless of how much Town driving iv just been doing!

So im thinking ECU is noticing the difference from before and thinks its faulty, should i just reset the ECU?? (d/c battery for 30mins thats it isnt it??)

Just fancy some confirmation on this one :)

Many thanks

Munny

Do you have an after market steering wheel?

If so the boss is not on straight so the ECU thinks you are cornering etc.

Also do you mean that you have had the HICAS eliminated?

whats the fluid like? was it topped up after the repair

Didn't know what year it was. My hicas is all electric and still have problems. From other threads it would seam worked from the power steering hicas problems are easyer solved. ie: such as checking oil level.

Well now that you mention is the steering wheel isnt dead on straight! i would say perhaps its 10degrees off! Could explain why is only happens when on motorway as straight line for most of it! Can i just go to average garage for tracking or do i need anythink special i thought i saw a thread a while ago about 4wheel tracking or something!

Thanks or your help guys

I would't bother going to an average garage for tracking. The problem of hicas comes up quite often on hear. Thing is some people come up with ideas on hear and some might work. I need a new boss as I have a momo steering wheel. Is your steering wheel standard? I no little about it and hope one day I get it solved. Better people on hear than me to advise you.

If it is a non standrd steering wheel that is out by 10 deg or so then 4 wheel alingment wont help. You need to get the wheel put on so that it is straight.

There is probably a how too somewhere on the site. The problem is that there is a sensor for the hicas on the boss so it needs to be in the right place to say that you are going straight if you know what I mean.

Yeah that makes sense!I got a MOMO steering wheel on but its always been fine with the hicas just after the service! Not too fussed as not got a long trip for a few weeks! Would it hurt to take it down an average joe place to get normal ttracking done as i know a guy that owes me a favor so it would be a freee trial :) Or should i wait get the steering wheel taken off wheels alligned then back on?

I don't think it is a tracking problem it is more that the boss in the steering wheel is in the wrong place. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

If its 10 deg out, just taken it of, turn it 10 degrees and put it back on LOL... Not rocket science... ALthough does it fit with the slip ring underneath (steering wheel angle sensor?) or not?

Best thing to do would be to try and get someone with conzult near by to hook up to the car and set the angle so its straight and put the steering wheel back on... Thats what i did with mine, although mine wasnt off centre for long, it still is a few degrees out (according to conzult) but not enough to upset my hicas
