This Week I have Been............

This week I have been ... replacing the rear arches on my eldest daughter's Metro. Well Its a Rover 100 actually .

I know!! I know!! you can laugh:D

Its taken me a couple of days and is a fiddly job indeed.

first I cut out the rust and filler. Then bought new arch repair panels. One off ebay for £3 and the other from my local panel man for £14. IF only 300Zx arches were that price!!!

then I trimmed the panel to fit tucking it inside the existing arch and spot welded it in place. I had to use some other curved arch sections to cut and shape for the inner arch to ensure the strength was maintained . This was a real PITA and took ages. Then a skim of filler to smooth everything off and repaint.

Im pleased with the result and Leanne is too. I didnt mind doing it really as she is a hard working girl and I am immensely proud of her.and it has made a refreshing change from working on Zeds

Next on the list is to fit the 1.4 Twin cam GTI engine she has bought for it.;)

Check out the pics LOL

nothing wrong with Metros. I had a metro the engine was great, just everything was held together with rust so it had to go! was cheap as chips to run and never let me down, till mot time and excessive corrosion were the wors of the day!

Thats what makes this one worth doing.. It is in excellent overall condition with minimal rust. that and the fact that its owner wont part with it even tho she could buy a new car!!

I have only rattle can painted it for now as it is needed for work next week. But when I get it back I will spray the whole rear quarter so the repairs will be completely invisible.

Final pic......

good job there bud,bet the daughters happy with dad this w/end mate:D

Looks like a good job pete.

The Metro is just about one of my least favourite cars in the world though :lol . Probably becuase my mum has only ever had Metro's since her first new one in 1986 and she's on about her 5th or 6th now and wont buy anything else! :headvswal.

It was one of the cars I learned to drive in and I detest everything about them
