You mean spray the whole car?

Gonna have to fork out for some equipment which ain't gonna be cheap. One major thing is that the lacquer will have to 2 pack (paint with an activator)which is pretty lethal to breathe in. Need a full face air fed mask to keep the isocyanates out your lungs and eyes. You could use non 2 pack on top but it's so weak and will scratch real easy.

I've managed to get a 2 litre's of solvent basecoat this morning as the new water based paint is rubbish in comparison. Plus the water base is twice as expensive. The whole point of solvents is to give the paint 'bite'. It's going to get hard soon though as solvents have been phasing out since Jan 07.

Personally I don't think it's a good idea to try and do a whole car. Not unless you have a large space you can seal up from dust and lots of time.

Ive never seen a good home jobby.

Make sure you get 2pack paint mixed for you, a laqour and a primer.

The corret paint is essential or it will just look crap.

ah u beat me to it,

Yeah you also need a big space free from dust and dirt particles that drop on the paint when its wet, you will never get a smooth finish otherwise :(

You could get away with painting just a wing i recon.

I'd advise everyone to get some solvent basecoat in their colour while you still can.

Give you an example, I've a mixing beaker here with dried Lechler Hydrofan water base colour here. I't's been drying for 8 days in my house and still I can peel it off with my nail.

These stupid EU regulations to cut VOC emissions into the atmosphere are the reason. 2k lacquer will be outlawed soon - it's replacement is already here. UV curing. The downside is the use of high power UV lamps that cause cancer. Lovely...

There's a reason for nasty chemicals - they work the best.
