I have decided I need to find some space in my living room so am going to invest in a flat panel TV for the wall.

I was all set for an LCD but have now been told by a guy in Currys that he feels Plasmas are still best if your main use is DVD's and TV which is what I will spend most of my time doing on it.

Can anyone into all this tell me the disadvantages of both formats and what one they would choose?

Cheers,

Justin

I was going for LCD, but eventuallywent for a plasma - better picture quality, darker blacks, handle fast motion (i.e. sport) better.

The only downside is they need to be "run in" for around 200 hours. e.g. lower contrast/brightness, avoid channels with bright, static logos in the corner.

I can throughly recommend this model http://www.johnlewis.com/230475912/Product.aspx

Go to http://www.avforums.com for loads of useful info.

Good luck

Been where you are m8 opted for the q97 Samsung Plasma in the end only really top end LCD's started to compare and cost is a consideration so in the end there was no choice far better quality with the Plasma. I mainly watch standard SKY and DVD's occasionally. I think there may be a Q98 model even now.

I have a 40" Sony bravia LCD new model. Awsome bit of kit specially in HD. Even adjusts the picture to the ambient room light automatically if chosen to and has black adjustment too. Still think plasma's are better richer pic quality but guy in work had one that packed up within 14 months then repaired and packed up again in a further two. Sort of put me off a little but have spoke to a few long term plasma owner's with no probs at all. Had an lcd projector and a DLP projector too. Hated the DLP great contrast but shite at speed , water, fire scenes etc the LCD projector crapped all over it but had poor contrast as it was an early phillips one.

I have a samsung 37" lcd and it just keeps impressing me time after time. standerd def is good, dvd's great and bluray is amazing!

Plasma.... all the talk about longevity + burn-ins :nono:

Don't know about skyhd because I only use mine for pc and gaming but HDMI (PS3) gaming is quite simply astonishing.

Look for 100hz 1080p LCD TV's and if you get stuck between a samsung and sony, they both use same screens. I have a Panasonic TX32LXD70, highly recomended.

I have the Samsung 46" LCD which is a cracking bit of kit. I use mine for bluray, PS3 and skyHD. Well worth looking at the avforums before you buy though.

I've got a 42" Panasonic plasma and a 32" Sony LCD, without a doubt the plasma is a much better picture.

Are you a member at Costcos by any chance? Good prices and they now throw in a 5 year warranty ;)

I have a 50" Samsung plasma which is excellent and a 32" LCD Samsung which is excellent, but i thought that when the pixels go on the LCD then its fooked (you cannot revive dead pixels ???)but with a plasma you can have it re-gassed, i'm probably wrong but hopefully someone can clarify.

Plasma is better for larger screens ....say above 32" but either will do the job if you are going smaller. That's a fact!!!! My friend bought a Pioneer Kuro Plasma......truly awesome nothing compares.

Rob

PS. I'm an LCD owner who wish he'd bought a plasma!!!!!
