Hi Guys

Have been reading through the mountain of aircon threads but cannot find out what the original amount of R12 was used to charge the aircon system.

If I have understood what I've read!

Advice seems to be:

- 90% of original charge for R24 (direct R12 replacement)

- 70% of original charge for R134A

- Add PAG oil as it is compatible with original mineral oil

So does anyone know how much R12 was originally in the system and how much PAG oil should be added.

Cheers

Martin

Hey Martin long time no see hows it going? as for the AC issue, have you tried asking a home AC engineer or refrigeration company? as i beleve their systems work in the exact same principles.

I normally put 8-10 oz's of r134a in and 4oz of pag in the 300zx when retrofitting a system or 4-6 oz's of r12 and 2-4 oz's of mineral oil if recharging an r12 system. if you by chance can get it.

I'd advise adding a florecent UV detectable dye, just incase you ever get a leak so its easier to trace.

You can buy retrofitting kits or full gas bottles or cannisters off of this supplier on Ebay :)

Hi Matt - Still around - read a lot - dont post much except to ask the experts on here :-).

I'm lining someone up locally to recharge the system but want to know my stuff before they do it.

Hi Andy Thanks for the info - Compressor has been replaced so it will need a full charge.

Problem seems to be getting a new receiver / drier. Nissan want £100+ vat !!!!!

Anyone know where I can get one for the regular £30 mark?

Cheers

You are supposed to change it but I have never changed one! If moisture does enter it it will be less efficient or may not work at all ,depending on how long the system has been empty and how long you have the system exposed to the elements if the pump was removed.

Been running mine for over 2 years with no problems. Best to change it though.
