when i bought the car, i was told it just needed a converter, but im not sure thats correct.

ive got 180 clocks

but the needle seems to be going in kmh

eg

if i do around 60 mph the speedo will read approx 100 on the clock

and if i do around 100 mph the needle will run off the clock at around 180

can anyone help,as i dont think a converter is the answer????

at 180 you should be doin 112, is the car still limited to jap spec cos this sounds about right if it is limited

i dont know

but i dont understand how the needle is going off the clock

if its got a converter on or not, surely the needle shouldnt read off the clock

seems like its been converted the wrong way

eg

reading kmh on a mph clock face

what happens when you reach 180on the clock, does the car keep going faster or stay at 1 speed?

Souds like you have english clocks with a jap chip.

I.e. when you are doing 100 mph it will read around 160 on he clock, which is the equivalent in kmh.

All the converter does is dd resistance to the signal to make the clocks think you are going slower.

I think you need an english ECU or a converter. AndyP is your man, he will confirm this or shoot me down in flames.

Good luck with it.

the clocks are fed from the speed sensor and then feed the ecu.

a uk stock clock will have both kmph and mph on the dial

a stock jap clock just has kmph, when you fit a converter chip you just stick a bit of black tape over the k and magik it is reading mph

i've taken the converter chip out of my import as it was sh1t and stopping the power stearing working. i get exactly what you describe.

if the ecu has been altered then the limiter could have been removed in the programing. removing the limiter would allow the car to go fast enough to get the needle off the end of stock jap clocks

i got a straight converter from zworld and it also delimits the car if its limited it will run out and you will feel the limiter kick in at approx 112 mph if not it will go to :P 170+ hehehe as yer man said they just put tape over the km and give you a certificate ive had no probs with mine since it was fitted.

Sounds like your clock is reading in km/h. 62mph is 100km/h and 100mph should be about 160km/h. It can be corrected by changing one of the resistors inside.

You may or may not have a speed limiter still in the ECU, will depend on whether it's been chipped or not.

So, easy fix to correct the clock and remove the speed limiter is buy one of the speedo convertor boxes and wire it in. Smart fix is change the resistor in the clock and chip the ECU.
