The choice had to be made sell the Zeds or get something for the wife and kids.

Obvously a third car was required the Zeds were staying.I am looking at a 1996 1.8 petrol S40 volvo with 69K for £3100 Stg or a 1997 1.9 Turbo diesel wit 98K for £4700 Stg

Anyone out there know anythin about these models? what to look out for or avoid alltogether.

Cheers

Roy,

If you want practicality but with a bit of fun and moderate streetcred, consider an old Shogun / Pajero.

Craig has got an old one (150K+) and I think has been pretty pleased with it.

You can get a ton of stuff in it.

Pretty comfortable to drive too.

Pajero Owners Club are on www.pocuk.com

Getting back your actual question though, I know bugger all about Volvos !

Hmmm, shame you didn't ask earlier. I've just sold my Volvo 760 2.3 Turbo estate, as well as the wife's Volvo 480 sports.

I had that car for 13 years and was still in perfect condition when I sold it last week. Was a 7 seater with tons of space. Very comfortable & pretty good perfomance too. Problematic 480 had to go though, and we thought in our particular situation it would be better to share a single car between us.

We looked at loads of cars, none of which had everything we both wanted. The 200SX came close but, as soon as we saw a Zed, we both immediately fell in love with it. smile.gif

My suggestion: Stay away from diesel and smaller engines. Far too sluggish and annoying for a Zed driver. 760, 960 or 850 with larger engine (Turbo if you can get it) will make it far less painful for you to drive. wink.gif

Can't really go too far wrong with them as they are pure Volvo & built to last almost forever. The only thing that ever went wrong with mine was a split seam in the radiator and a blown rear silencer box. Not too bad for 13 years...

Unlikely choice but for me its a Rover 800 Vitesse Sport from the BMW years 96 -98!! 200bhp with Garret turbo, 17" allys stock, up to 34mpg, bags of room ,full leather interior. Std qtr in 15.8 seconds. So not too much withdrawal symtoms when you're not in your Z

Willie

Dont you find that if you drive a slow car for a while, when you get back in the zed it seems twice as awesome as if you drove another fast car though?

I drove my girlfriends 1.2 Corsa to Chelsmford a few months ago. Full tank, 2 people and a suitcase, foot too the floor it could manage 70, tops.

Going up a hill and it got to 50. I nearly had to go down to 4th frown.gif. As soon as it had about 1/4 of a tank, it picked up alot and we cruised at 80.

Makes you happy that the Z can just accelerate to get into outer lanes in about 2 seconds, and not have to plan it for 5 miles like I had too. wink.gif
