Last week my battery went flat - thought it was something I'd done so I charged it up and its run fine for the week and then tonight while washing the car - its done the same thing. I was listening to a minidisc on the stereo and after about 1 hour of washing etc I started to hear a clicking noise coming from the rear of the car and then the stereo started to switch on and off rapidly - then it stayed off - It did these things last week. I tried to start the car and all that would happen was the starter relay would click merrily to itself and that was it...I dont know how old the battery is but its in Japanese....Anyone recognise the symptoms and agree the battery is junk?

Yep!

I had the same problem at Xmas ,gave in eventually and bought a new battery.

A high power Japanese battery cost me £60 from a local battery co.

I wonder if my Z will idle a bit better after a change then? Its been a bit erratic but always seems to run better after a hard run.....

Hi,

My car ran better after fitting a new battery...less hesitance and better idle. The erratic idle seemed to be cured by a new battery, although I did clean a lot of contacts in the engine bay at the same time. The car seemed to pull away much cleaner as soon as the old battery was junked.

Last time my battery died I bought an Ultima Red Top.

At £135 it aint cheap but it is rated at at least double the output of a 'normal' heavy duty battery. And its a sealed unit so besides being able to mount it upside down (if you like that sort of thing ;) it should not suffer from the fluid evaporation caused by the extreme heat under the bonnet.
