Recon or 17's?

My rear wheels are looking a state with the rims being quite bad with chips and scrapes all around them and with black marks on the spokes too.

 

Now do I recon them or shall I save up for 17's?

 

Really I would like something like 255 or 265 on the rear, because 245 are not holding higher revs in 1st or 2nd in a straight line.

 

If I get 17's it will probably be a year or so away cos I cant afford it and I just put new tyres on the rear too.
