Tried to do this at the weekend and was totally stumped. Does any one know how to get it off with out using an impact driver as there is no room? More to the point how do I tighten up an Unorthodox Racing Pulley?

Cheers in advance,

Andy

Use an old fan belt, anchor it to something solid and allow it to wrap under itself on the pulley. It will self tighten and hold the pulley while you do it :)

Using a long ring spanner or socket bar which is placed on the pulley nut at 4 o'clock resting against something solid, i.e. the floor or a block of wood, ensuring PTU / CAS is disconnected, turn the ignition key and engage the starter, it will simply unscrew the bolt.

And put it in reverse to tighten it? ;)

On a serious note, I once did that with a supra and it actually jacked the car up   Fortunately no damage was done though....

Best with Genuine Nissan belt, Mitsiboshi ones can slip :p Water pump is a good anchor too, might break it though so best not to use it unless you're changing it.

Aircon tensioner bracket is a much safer option ;)

Or smash the park gears in the autobox:eek:

If you can get under the car take the starter motor out and stick a good

strong flat head driver into the teeth of the ring gear then a long bar and

socket worked for me and no danger of having a bar flying into the air

and you will not fook the belts up

or just use an airgun like me as previos experience of my mechanics trying to undo it by turning the engine over with a bar wedged against the floor did not impress me !

Andy, I changed the the bottom pulley on my Auto N/A and didnt use any special tricks. just a long cracking bar and socket. Before removing any of the belts to give extra resistance bring it to compression and just twat the bar a few times with a big hammer to crack it, Make it the last nut you retighten when when you put it back together and retighten the same way. I Never had a problem and I only had my one arm so you should have no probs mate.

Well worth trying first:)

I like the sound of that. Cheers Andy.

Chock the starter motor, it is the easiest and safest way, the starter is only held on with 3 bolts, it is a 2 man job as one needs to hold the big screwdriver and the other to undo the pulley bolt.

2 Bolts lol. If you are removing the starter make sure you disconnect the battery as the supply to it is a thick wire and unfused - welding time lol
