this is serious so trust me! iv got a 1991 jap spec and i have had afew upgrades, but nothing intearnal.iv got a blitz boost controller and a power meter id. my car was running around 30psi.yes i mean 30psi.it did this for about 1 week. then it lost power. i could only get 22psi at a push. now i can only get 21.9 at a push. i have had a boost pressure test done and nothing is leaking. the car runns fine ie, no smoke, no noises and not detting. the only other thing i noticed was that my car doesnt seem to purr when im crusing on the motorway anymore and it doesnt feel as responsive as it did. i know this boost is high but the car loves it. it baffles mechanics minds as how i can run so much boost on standard turbos and intearnals but i know that i have lost a lot ov power. WHAT COULD THIS BE? please help me...........

This is getting a little confusing, so the gauge Jeff used, your EBC and aftermarket ??? boost guage ALL showed 30+PSI initially and then it dropped to 20 odd. For me it is hard to grasp that this is possible albeit it could be bur unlikeley. Like Andy said, could you post up a picture of your boost gauge at all ?

Jeff never let it get that high cus he was scared. I killed the car for about 40 mins to get there and was peaking at 21.9psi. When the car was "working" it was was shit loads faster. look at my first few posts

Another thing I'm sure the stock actuator springs wouldn't be strong enough to keep the wastegates shut at those kind of pressures - on stock turbos the manifold pressure would be immense!!!

Okay to put this all back into normality again, if possible!

The actual boost controller was telling carl it was peaking at 30psi and he was well happy with that as the car went like fook, well wouldn't we all ;)

It only became a problem when the car in his opinion became slower but still peaking around 21psi. I spoke with Carl after his brief visit to Zedworld who simply took the car on a short test drive and Jeff stopped as soon as the car peaked ( so as to avoid damage to a customers car) in Jeff's opinion the car was not detting and was clearly rapid, his only explanation was to investigate the boost controller and what aftermarket parts were fitted to the car, which carl was to do.

When i spoke with carl i said exactly same as you guys, no it's not possible you must be reading something wrong, the engine would have blew by now, but as of yet it hasn't. I also thought of a boost leak which carl says has been done and no leaks found. Finally i said maybe the lack of power is in fact the rings on their way out from running such high boost. So we have to now assume there is some aftermarket parts on his zed allowing him to do this as far as i know he's been runing this kind of power for some time.

So starting from the begining, Carl after having your boost controller fitted and set up last time round ( forget the companies name now) did your car run quicker after this set up or slower, so in short was your car really quick before the controller was fitted ????????

I know I should remember this but it was nearly a year ago lol - what gearbox is fitted?

yes it was totally rapid before i got the controller. the only reason i got it was so i could turn it down on slick days and have fun with the power meter id. thanks for helping me out. its frustrating when people think im joking!:nana2:

could the split pins have corroded on the actuators and the arms came loose from the waste gates. and the waste gates become seized closed and only venting under extreme pressure. I mean ZXetreme pressure?:D

what a tool!!!

theres not many turbos which will make that amount of boost never mind OEM turbos which will only make 16/17 psi at THE MOST

although i'm not a big fan of zedworld i'm sure they would have spotted if it had a massive aftermarket turbo setup but by the sounds of it it hasnt!!

the stupid thing is mate if you are as stupid as we all think and your trying to run silly boost through your oem turbos then you will actually be making the car go slower by running more boost LOL once its out of its efficiency range you will just be creating hot air, in your case alot of hot air and you will make less power

me thinks you play grand turismo too much and got confused!!

im gona post som pics. oh yeh im a floor layer aswell. i fit almost anything.:D

ive tried to add some pics but i just dont seem to be able to do it: . can you help? :o

you have to remember, there are people on here who know these cars inside out and know for a FACT that unless the car has been heavily and i mean heavily modified that theres no way it will be running that kind of boost so to be serious for a second forget how much boost your car is running as its clearly giving you a wrong reading, at most you want your car boosting to around 14 psi which about the max your gonna get on a pretty much standard car, if its not detting then its likely you have an aftermarket chip to increase the fueling but to check remove the ecu from the passanger footwell and open it up to see if its a different chip.

So lets look at the facts, if i was to take an educated guess as to whats happened to your car i would say first of all it was running standard boost and if your new to these cars they are still rapid on oem boost, then you fitted a boost controller and its been fitted wrong and is reading from the wrong source or something similar, since fitting the controller your car has now gone into safety boost so has cut the boost by half making it feel slow again!!

Just out of curiosity take a look at the front of your plenum down each side and tell me if there is a plug each side which is unplugged??

Fraid it's a manual bud!

Must have an uprated clutch then to be running that kind of boost? Otherwise it aint gonna last long at all....

Genuine question - Mainiac, what 0-60 are you achieving at '21psi'?

I tried to use power meter id a few weeks ago. I set it at 0-50 cus for some reason it dont do 0-60. Anyway i pulled up at the side of a flat straight road and let her rip. i lost a bit of traction but did it in 2 gears @ 3.8. does this sound about right? its all recorded on my power meter id as proof!:D

I PLUGGED A CONNECTOR TOGEATHER THE OTHER WEEK. I THOUGHT IT HAD BEEN MISSED. IS THIS THE CONNECTOR YOUR TALKING ABOUT?

Is it black? There are 2 - one either side of the engine. These MUST be disconnected if running an EBC

The power doesnt feel halfed it feels as if its lost about 100 bhp. trust me its still fast. I know what safety boost is like cus that happend before. safty boost is proper slow
