On the radio today there on about young people not wearing seat belts while out in there cars and more so the ones in the back of a car. Some of the comemnts were

I'm not going far. Or , wearing it will mess me clothes up ffs

 

so what do they think a head on at 30mph will do

i personally will not move if someone in the car has not got there belt on even more so if there sat behind me.

Just wondering what your views were.

TBH i believe that anybody under 16 should be made to wear a seatbelt and i personally make sure when i am driving that they do. However after the age of 16 when people can think for themselves i think it should be up to them whether they wear a seatbelt or not. Personally i always wear a seatbelt and would do whether it were law or not, but i don't believe in telling other people what to do when they hurt no-one but themselves. Alot of people would'nt agree with me but i don't like being told what to do! :rant: If it were up to me, tell them what could happen when they are learning to drive and then leave it to them.

I'm the same as you mate, my car doesn't move unless everyone has there belts on, if you don't like it 0208-2082152 - it's a cab number! lol

you all saw the mess of my zed and if any one of us was not wearing our seat belts it would have been a differant story, they saved our lives and i would always make everybody in my car belt up.

Seat belts save lives - fact!

 

Way, way more so than airbags. I too won't drive off if passengers won't "belt up"

i think he would agree but what he means if someone behind you isn't wearing a seat belt its you infront that comes worse off, i thought the same as you but after my accident i just wouldn't take the risk

yeah i know not trying to argue sorry if it came over like that but i've been to many a smack where the rear passenger has cause'd injury if not fatel due to the lack of a seat belt and many more where the front people wern't wearing them. where a seat belt would of saved a live

 

if you weigh 13.5 st at 30 mph you weigh 3tons if you hit a wall head on or more if it's a car moving towards you, just food for thought next time someone is sat behind you eh ???/

Back in 'the land of no rules' we never used to wear belts, even going through road blocks with cops, they never did anything..... if they did we just gave a beer to shut up :D

 

Coming here has opened my eyes and made me realise how stupid (and lucky) we were...

 

Saying that though, as a kid, I must of read or seen a film where someone in an accident got stuck coz of their seat belt and that scared the living day lights out of me... I'm still really touchy about wearing belts but from a fine and points point of view... belts all the time here.

Trust me seat belts work, having been a fireman and then a copper (not any more). One of the worst accidents i had was to try and cut someone out, well at least the remains, was after a guy in a Saab on a mobile hit a low loader who was broken down and he was doing 80mph with no belt, his top half was still on the phone, but this was in the boot and his legs were in the driving position. Then had a similar crash whith a girl with a belt on, sure she had a broiken chest bone but survived.

I look at idiots driving around without belts on and think its only a matter of time,

yeah it has been shown i a film where a car goes on fire and there trapped in side by there seat belt, but as you say it was a film.. In a real crash if the person is still conscious and able to make escape then they will be able to undo there selt belt to gain release, i have never been unable to open a seat belt buckel at an RTC yet. And as our station medic so to speak i'm usually the first one in to the car to do this.

I put my first car on it's roof at triple digit speeds. Not big, and not clever I know. Nobody else was in the car, and nobody else was involved/affected.

 

The seatbelt saved my life FACT!!!!!!!

 

Even hanging upside down in my seat my seatbelt still released perfectly, it was a good job my head cushioned my fall though :rofl:
