Hi,

Does anyone have any idea what can be used to put a skim over my Stillen front bumper? The problem is for some reason the top part (that runs under the headlights and nose panel) has gone wavey/warped :(

Cheers

Vijay

AFAIC the answer is whatever you skim it over with will sooner or later crack and lift due to the flexibility of urethane. However there are products available from specialist motor factors who supply paint etc. try asking at one. Do you have "Brown Brothers" or similar near you??

Try Yellow Pages. Or Send a PM to "Boldy" on this forum. He is one very skilled body shop painter

Anyone ever hear of a polyester filler spray?

Vijay

I've had mine skimmed before painting as when fitted it dimpled on either side.

Also had the IC vents fitted at the same time. This was done by Peter.

I believe I have the same bumper as you.

Cheers for the link. Think I'll have to do some research, that link doesn't mention it being flexible :(

Yes mate, same bumper as yours. Any idea what Peter used?

:nono::nono: Not poly ester spray filler Vijay.

Firstly its really like like thick paint. Used to fill pin

holes pitting etc in old metal or cheap n nasty fibreglass parts ... as fitted to many 300ZXs. Its NOT flexible cos its doesnt need to be.

Urethane is flexible so you need flexible filler.

doesnt anyone down sarf know anything!!! LOL

Nothing spray on will do as it wont fill waving/ripples.

If you can wait till next week I can speak to my body shop man. But surely there are some Proper time served sprayers/painters on here to advise.

Im just a self taught amateur:(

Ring me if you need help mate.

Hello bud,

It was actually a guy in a branch of Morellis who suggested pollyester spray, reckons it'd have ebough flex in it easily  and just by chance, Allan replied to me tonight and suggested using the same thing. I left a message for my garage to speak to the painter who'll be doing my car to see whta he says too. If you can still ask your painter, I'd appreciate that :)

Cheers

Will do Vijay. My worry is the spray filler wont build enough depth to mask the ripples and if it does it will be too brittle and flake off.

I guess it depends how badly out of shape it is . any pics????

You can't see the ripples in pics, actually can't see them in the flesh but if you run your hand over the bumper, they're there ;) The shop said it will build up no problem, it's actually the opposite and that's why any normal filler wouldn't work, it would have to go on so thin ;)
