Hey guy's..

What's the average price you would expect to pay for a new set of spark plugs (twin turbo) ?

I've been told they are £10.00+ per plug :eek:

Thanks!!

Get some NGK BCPR7ES and gap them to 0.7mm, (if you want to run 1 bar / 14/15psi), good and inexpensive plugs widely used by Supra owners... less than £5 each!!

Are they the correct size and are they coppers ?

Yes correct size, and yes coppers so not chance of dett...

Coppers are only good for a few thousand i change mine every 1k anyway if you want a copper plug you dont need to gap buy zfr7f-11 they are rare but readily available.

Platinums are best for stock boost no doubt.

But if your running upped boost the coppers give less chance of dett.

Hmmmmm

"NGK Platnium spark plugs are the OEM plug for the Nissan 300zx. They are ideal for all stock Zeds because of their excellent spark and longevity (60K). However they really perform at their best on modified TT's. The PFR6B-11B being a colder grade than stock and with the slightly longer shroud length to further reduce risk of detonation are not openly available within the UK and were mainly sold for the US market. "

Someones good at copy and paste!!

If you want to pay a tenner a plug thats your choice.

You'll pay about 3.50 to 4.00 for zfr7f-11.

Do a search on ZFR7F-11 you'll find alot of people have tried and tested them.

Here you are paul this is a braeakdown of the NGK part numbers

EG PFR6B-11

P = Elecrode Type = Platinum

F = Thread Measurements = Thread 14mm, pitch 1.25mm, Reach 19.0mm, hex 16.0mm

R = Ressitor

6 = Heat rating, lower the no hotter the plug.

B = Design Feature

11 = Gap size 1.1mm

ZFR7F-11

Z = Electrode Type = Extended Gap (Extra Protection)

F = Thread Measurements = Thread 14mm, pitch 1.25mm, Reach 19.0mm, hex 16.0mm

R = Ressitor

7 = Heat rating, lower the no hotter the plug.

F = Design Feature

11 = Gap size 1.1mm

So people can compare the two and decide for themselves.

You got me thinking hard now :eek:

I "think" I may have bought a set of ZFR7F-11 off Chunk many years ago, now they are the colder copper plugs right ? and I'm sure they were about 3 quid a pop but have reduced milage. I may have to reconsider what plugs I'm gonna buy now !

hi all, just got a ZX about 9 days ago, i got it serviced at the garage and asked them to get the NGK Pfrb-11c plugs as recommended by the forum memebers......however the garage fitted denso plugs which they said were equivalent to the NGKs. I noticed on the Denso plug boxes it states that the spark gap should be adjusted to suit the car spec??? i asked the garage about this and they said it was not necessary! is this ok, can this leads to any problems??

sorry to jump in on ur thread

Paul jfyi, the NGK's on smithys-place are especially imported into the UK, only a couple of companies do this. NGK were commissioned by Nissan to design a plug for the Zed which was a C grade, but the other numbers and letters remain the same. Standard plug is a 5, so 1st off a 6 is colder and certainly in a platinum plug if it was available, a 7 would be too cold. The B series as you mentioned from the site are not only being a grade colder but a very minor slight increase in shroud length further helps avoid det as well.

Absolutely 100's of sets of these have been sold and used by Zed specialist's for a number of years. In short yeah they are 60 bucks delivered, but your getting what nissan intended, last around 60k miles and are a colder plug for higher boost applications. Ok replacing the spark plugs ain't rocket science, the back 2 can be a slight pain and take longer, so once they are wapped in, you wanna forget em ;) OR pay a 3rd of the price for the coppers and change them more than 3 times during a platinum's life time.

cheers

smithy

b19rks, can you get hold of these plugs ?

sorry, are you talking to me?? if so, well i guess if i looked i could find the recommended NGKs but ive paid for the densos now and they are fitted. I am not sure, but i think my car is noisier now than before it had its full sevice, although its gradually got louder over a couple of days, could this be anything to do with the spark plugs.....the engine oil was also changed and i think there might be less in it now than there was before the service??? as i think the oil pressure gauge is lower now (but i think it is now in the recommended level according the the zx buying guide on this forum) but the engine noise im talking about does sound as though its due to low engine oil as it just purred before now can hear it slightly tapping, or maybe im just being paranoid??

Well answer to your 1st Q is no :p

But in answer to the rest, I would DEFFO take, or even get them to pick up and, take the car back to the garage that did the work ! and get it sorted
