I appear to have no spark at the plugs :(

I've changed my battery today, due to the old one only holding a short charge.. Fitted new dash cluster, DVD player, and seperate screen a couple of days ago, but had the car running since then.

The last time the car ran (couple of evenings ago) it felt lumpy on tick-over as if it wasn't firing on all cylinders, but revved ok.

I have taken a coilpack off today to check for a spark, and nothing :( The plug was very dirty (considering it's only done 700 miles running-in) and the plug was bone dry...But it turns over perfectly.

I have checked all the fuses in the engine bay, and drivers footwell & plenty of fuel in the tank.. Even reset the alarm immobiliser, just incase.

Any help/advice very much appreciated.

Thanks guy's.

What amp should that one be Steve?

I'm not too sure as its not marked on the cover, i think its just a bridge. Take the wire of thats there and check it for open circuit and check the connections for any corrosion.

No corrosion on the connections (car side) and registering 12.5 volts, but the wires insulation just crumbled when I removed the wire, but there was still a 12.5v current running through it, albeit uninsulated.

If it's crumbled that means it's been getting pretty hot, my guess is that who ever put that loop in there was getting through a lot of fuses for some reason, If fuses were blowing, then I would think you have an exposed wire somewhere up the harness.

Well..

I've been on the car all day.. Checked for loose connections everywhere (including underneath the car), changed my dash dials back to standard, cleaned electrical connections with contact cleaner, changed the ECU, checked the ECU harness, checked all the wiring inside the centre console ie stereo wiring.

Everytime I checked something I checked my multimeter for 5volts at the PTU/ECU PTU output, and always got 0.04v, so didn't ever bother trying to start the car.

10 hours later, decide enoughs enough, I've done all I can, realised I'd left the ignition turned on for about an hour, and think well that's the battery dead, so turned the key to try, and fook me it started first time .. She was a bit lumpy to start with, but after warming up gave her some decent revs, and she purrs again, so decided to check the PTU input power.. still 0.04v

Put my old ECU back on.. Sarts first time.. So I don't know whether to be over the moon, or cautiously optamistic, but either way, pretty happy :nana2:

Many thanks for your help with this problem guy's:bow:.. will keep you informed of any new developments, when I try and start it tomorrow lol.

Glad to hear you got her going mate. Are you saying it fires up with a 0.04V feed to the PTU? If this is the case then your PTU is obviously magical and can generate it's own feed lol :p

Regards,

Vern

I know Vern.. That's why I never tried starting the car all day, I constantly kept getting 0.03/0.04 I even bought a new multimeter yesterday, as the old one went funny (adding a tenth of a voltage every couple of seconds, so I binned it).

But when she fired I immediately tested the PTU input, and it was the same 0.03v

Great news Gumball.

So for all others reading this that is having the same sort of problem. Just do everything you an possibly think of until you come to the point where there is nothing left to chaeck and you would have sorted your problem :)

Just updating this thread incase anyone refers to it for a problem they have.. The problem reared its ugly head again, and turned out to be a faulty CAS .. Now replaced, and running beautifully :D

im having similar problems, how much was a new cas?

Actually, a very nice member sent me one for free.

I have seen them offered on here IRO £40.

You can easily test your CAS..

Let me know if you need to know how ;)

I've just read your last post on your other thread.

If you have fuel & a spark, then I believe it's not likely to be the CAS.

Just had a look Steve.. And I don't have a blue fuse

It looks like someone at some time has replaced a fuse with a permanent bridge, and I bet that's where the blue fuse should be.. Right?
