Hi every one, ive just joined the club, let me say, it's nice to own z tt manual again, except this time she is a mint example, if anyone has any spare roof pockets and straps to hold the roof's down and is going to Japfest, please let me know, also, how do I go about putting my z with all the others at Japfest, do you get a discount for being with the club?

Welcome to the club Leigh!

That is one gorgous car, would it be worth fitting a intercooler to mine as the boost is at 1 bar, it has all been set up at Zworld, would it make much difference and would it have to be remapped again?

Welcome to the club.

Your obviously talking about a 'front mount' type intercooler (FMIC) in place the 2 side mounted intercoolers fitted as standard. It certainly makes a difference and it should not affect your existing fuel/map setup. If you intend buying a FMIC, then buy the better version with 2 inlets and 2 outlets, which gives better perfomance.

Thanks for the info, where is the best site to visit, is it something the local mechanic can undertake?

I thought this section was only for technical enquiries LOL :p

Just getting used to the site, are the standard turbos reliable at 14psi with no aftermarket intercoolers?

14psi ? how have you got to that amount of boost.? Std intercoolers are fine but a FMIC is better. Ebay always has a good collection going but obviously HKS does them but they are £££'s dearer than the copycat ones.

It was remapped at Zworld at 1 bar , are the turbo,s still reliable at this boost.

Hello and welcome Leigh!

:D

if zedworld set the boost at that then i would have imagined he would have told you the implications of setting old standard tubs at this pressure

as long as the engine and tubbies are in good nick then 14psi is fine, as long as you have a remapped/aftermarket eprom in your ecu to map the fuelling, otherwise it goes lean :nono:

you'll only need uprated intercooler(s) when you push past 15/16psi. i have Z1 sidemounts - i would have fancied a FMIC but theres not enough space behind my bumper.

how are you achieving 14psi mate? boost jets or EBC?

ps. welcome to the club dude!

Bought the car a few days ago and went through the recipts and found that zedworld had remapped it, just dont wanna wreck the turbo's as i'm not that clued up on the subject.

Cheers mate, boost jets, how do these work? Its also had the hot water round the inlet by past, how does this help?

14psi is pushing your luck tbh. How many miles are on the engine and turbos? I've seen far too many pistons with cracked ring lands through pushing an old and tired engine too far. I usually recommend 12psi which although still pushing it a bit is MUCH safer :)

It is showing 56000 miles on the clock, most of which is in kilometres, would a front mounted intercooler make it safer?

front mounts are crap, you need greddy or pace side mount intercoolers, why block your engine rad with a big intercooler rad?????

i bow down to Andy's knowledge, tho for each person that says x psi is a safe max, or y psi is a safe max, someone else will say they've run 16psi on stocks for years and not had a problem! its all down to the condition of your motor and how often it gets serviced (and a smattering of luck ;) )

i dont know the technical ins and outs of boost jets, though theyre small mig welding tips that go in the boost lines and allow boost to pick up higher than normal, although electronic controllers are much better (and more expensive)

at this stage you dont need to worry about aftermarket intercoolers, though if you decide to go to the next stage, you need to think about uprated turbos, and larger injectors, etc.

do you have an aftermarket boost gauge installed mate, as they are a very high priority when playing with power

Hi , if anyone has any spare straps to hold the roof's down and is going to Japfest, please let me know,

got a spare set somewhere, will try and find them before japfest

Their is an aftermarket boost gauge installed, I will give zedworld a ring later and see what steps I can take to get reliable power from my z.
