High Emmissions, hard to start.

Hello,

 

recently had the gearbox out. now has high emissions (failed MOT) and can be quite hard to start. was OK before this.

 

Any suggestions as to where to start fixing? diag appears to have no faults.

 

i was thinking, would a dodgy O2 sensor cause this? Perhaps temperature sensor reporting the car is permanently hot/cold?
