Suspension Q:How would the Z handle being fitted with Air-Assisted struts ?

[/b]

Maybe !

On engine start (car will rise to set height) ? On engine shut down (lower to set height) and have a manual overide set up inside the car ? For Ex: when approaching a shitty driveway or speedhump , you can lift the car at front or rear to gain entry to driveway etc !

I dont mean air bags (for slamming it to ground) more so air-struts ???

I found this set-up supposedly for a Z !

It would handle like a Bentley (or maybe more accurately a Rolls Royce or Citroen!).

Would be handy for speed humps etc though.

ill answer this in two.

have you ever seen a race car with this type of suspention?

why?

In theory it's perfect progressive springing (can't bottom out etc), but I'd guess the problem is in getting the damping right.

Hi mate i have this exact set up on mine. I got it to get on and of the ferry to the mainland. I didn't fit the rears because i was concerned about handling in taht respect, however with the fronts only on, it became a bit wavy at around 120mph approaching bends. It's easy to fit but has a downside in that there must always be a certain amount of pressure in the struts to maintain a comfy ride, once pressure drops ( which it does) the ride firms up a lot. You can of corse just flick the switch and more pressure goes back in again.

Only person i know with it on all 4 corners is Paul from Knightsbridge in Nottingham, though his car is really just a show car now.

If your feeling flush you can use Top secret's kit, you need to use coilovers on the corners your doing and an air cup fits on the top of it and pushes the struts up and down when you want it to, in teh same fashion as the kit above, difference being the ride is always as per the settings on your coilovers you have and the air is only used when you need it and this is very very similar to what some very expensive sports cars have ;)

cheers

Hey Smithy,

How's it going mate?

yeah

I did hear something about the air-cup set-up, + yes,also very pricey to i beleive ! lol

Do you remember the old citreons with the air-lift set up they had ? mmm ?

I cant see me going over 120mph to much over here (haha) (Australia)

New Anti-Hoon Legislation nono: as the (filfth) old bill here are impounding cars (for 3 months)+ then CRUSHING them if anyone gets caught a 2nd time round ! for hooning in any way shape or form !!:rant: smoking the tyres etc :x:

And just plain old bad luck if the dirty copper doesnt like you i suppose to !!!!:headvswal:headvswal:headvswal

Anyway back to topic, your set up is the same as the one pictured ??,

Have you any pics of your car/set-up ??:D

How often do they lose pressure ? so they are good when you need them to raise front for ferry etc ? and you wouldnt drive around to much with it raised

im still very curious about it all though .:D

Cheers mate !

Hi mate, yep the very same as in your pic and from the same company. Sorry no pics of the car with showing slammend or up high, sozz

Mine lost pressure quite quickly but then i did have a few minor leaks in the system. Quick flick of teh switch and she was back to normal again though so that was no problem really.

Deffo do the job, i could lower it to about 1.5in of the floor then higher it to about 14in of the floor, thats' taken from the bottom of my front bumper.

You deffo wouldn't drive around with it raised though no :D

If you ever come across any copies of the top secret kit, let me know ;)

cheers

I was thinking about this just yesterday while on the tube! There are waaaay too many killer speed bumps and potholes around here and the lips are bearing the brunt of it! Even when I crawl over them there's still contact half the time!

Would be interested in any info and affordabilities!
