Just moved house and the car is bottoming out going up the drive so have adjusted the suspension up a bit... well all except for 1 strut!!

The front passenger side seems to be stuck solid, I have tried pentrating oil, heat, big ass C spanner extension and nothing is moving it!!

Anyone got any handy tricks before I lose my mind?? :headvswal

Ive got the same problem chris, but ive had no need to adjust them yet.

Personally, i would try and get rid of as much rust as possible first with a wire brush to stop any more crap getting in the threads of the adjustable plate.

The only thing i could suggest is patience. You could alwats try the shock tactic and hit it with a hammer and try and break whatever corrosion is connecting them together, and lots of penetrating oil.

Best of luck

Nick

Get a can of PlusGas if you haven't tried it yet.

Much better than all the other penetrating oils and WD40 that don't seem to do much.

Beat me to it lol. Plusgas is worlds apart from WD40 (which also makes things rust lol)

Also after the plusgas has had time to do its thing. Get a big screw driver in one of the C spanner flanges on the collor and use the hammer to drift it half a turn.

Ah mate thats a killer. Well if it still wont budge then take the shock off completly, just undo the top shock mount nuts and the botom nut and bolt then take it off. You will prob have to undo the shock, take the spring out then work on the adjusters in a vice or just brake/saw the old adjuster rings off and fit new ones. But clean the thread up with a wire drill piece and keep them greased or you will be looking at round 2 :(

Yup, be very carefull though that the screwdriver doesn't damage the collar ;) Nice big BLUNT end :)

Plusgas it is then, where's the best place to get it??

Don't think I have heard of that before, tried the screw driver and hammer approach too, nice big 4lb lump hammer after heating it up and no joy with that either lol....

Cheers for the quick responses all!!!

Plusgas is available from almost ALL motorfactors :)

If you have cleaned the threads well and loobed em up well you only need a sharp tap to crack the seal and as Andy says a blunt ended driver or even a peice of hard wood. They are tuffer than you think.

Have you got the wheel off the ground as its better to have as much wait off the spring as possible !

I thought that was a known when ajusting height, because you remove the load off the collor. However good to point out there Paul.

Could be an idea to drive the adjusting plate as thought your lowering the car. It might just be getting jammed on rust driving it up the way!

Yeah, cars in the air... soaked it in plus gas last night so will have another bash when I get back after work.....

Already tried it both ways Shrek but it's being stubborn either way, even extended the c spanner so it was a metre long on monday and still no joy lol

Figures crossed that PlusGas does the job!!
