Oil Cooler

I was going to use my turbocharger oil cooler from my old uk car for my AT cooler but i've noticed my jap spec turbo oil cooler is half the size of the uk one.

Should i just swap the turbo coolers over and invest in a new oil cooler for the AT?

Just use the UK spec engine oil cooler for the jap spec engine oil cooler and use the old jap spec engine oil coler for the autobox oil cooler. thats what alot of people do.

Z centre do a kit i think, which givesyoua larger engine oil coler on the assumption that you use the existing engine oil cooler for the autobox.

Thanks bud. I always thought having a larger AT cooler was more important due to the high amount of failures from these boxes, will the larger turbo cooler be more effective for the turbo's then? I thought the main reason for turbo failure was the seals going so i take it this is cooling related.

well, i believe turbo siezing is mainly due to overheated oil choking the oil lines up so the turbos get no oil cooling. Especially passenger side on which the oil lines are tiny.

Jap spec engine oil coolers are renowned for being too small, so most people replace it with a UK spec or larger replacement.

Generally bigger the better when it comes to coolers, although one thing i did notice that my old autobox with its huge cooler on it took ages to warm up properly. It didnt drive well for the first mile or so, but after it had got some warmth in the oil it was fantastic... Even now im manual, I still miss it. Not in the twistys but on the motorway it was awesome :D
