Theres always been a small amount of slack in my drive train but recently it seams to make a knocking noise when coming off and on the throttle in gear.

I tend to keep it locked in 2nd most of the time as i'm always driving in London at the moment and need the revs to be in the right place.

Could this be damaging it? Could it be the Torque convertor as it's locked up in 2nd and 1st gear isn't it??

Gonna have a look at it this weekend.

could be a number of things mate :( i cant remmember hearing a noise when you took me for a drive? you should hear mine makes loads of funny noises but then again all my bushings are hard.

gearbox mount worn, causing the box to sag and possibly hitting the exhaust.

differential bushings.... a cnut to change in situ.

subframe bushings... yours looked ok but i didnt have a proper look.

worn shaft rubber donut. I cant recall yours being noisy.

OR play in diff like mine think they call it transmission back slash :( it knocks on and off throttle but i think mine had a little to do with engine flex as my offside engine mount is torn up and the engine was real unstable due to hesitation it was wobbling about etc.

wheres the noise sound like its coming from?

the rear, centre or front?

I'd say it was coming from the middle, but doesn't make sense really? I'll get under it tomorrow and give everything a good wiggle!!! I have a spare prop, centre bearing and torque convertor. Not to mension a spare knackered auto box, so hopefully have parts if theres anything wrong.

Play in the diff could be poss. How do i test that? rotate the rear wheels and feel for play???

Maybe time for an N/A diff for faster acceleration if so :D

Jack the car up from behind under the diff put axle stands on the wisbones.

Have someone in the car either keep it in gear and press throttle on and off or engage and disengage the gears while you peak underneath and see whats moving about but be careful and dont touch anything......

if the noise it coming from the centre then id say gearbox mount or centre prop.

I'm under the car now and there's alot of play in the diff, is there a way to check oil levels?

Also, there are sensors on either side of the diff, the right hand wheel that sends a + - + - + - pattern to the sensor is very shiny!, been rubbing. I've found my squeek !!!! only been a year, lol

Have you checked the autobox fluid level they make some funny popping noises if they get low, i found this out when i split an oil cooler pipe, 3 months later i had a new gearbox!

If you take out the offside plug on the diff and oil comes out then its filled enough.

wheres the play? in the diff or the bushings? there is suppose to be some play in the diff but im not sure how much coz mine has a lot too, GB on new diff haha no chance, the bushings on the diff should be very firm and not have any movement.

hows the gearbox is it moving? and the shaft?

Play is coming from the off side drive shaft going into the diff, i can move it clearly moves around where it meets the diff. If i turn the wheel back and forth then there is a knocking sound. The drive shaft and gear box seem ok.

I just cleaned my throttle boddies and ICV so gonna take it for a spin to clear that out, when its hot i'll check the oil levels.

Thanks guys!!

I just got your text. ok ignore the text then apart from the oil level bit.

its hard to tell where the movement is unless you take off the diff. So the nearside has less movement?

changing the oil wont make a difference but seen as your at it you may aswell change it if its dirty.

heres a vid of where i have play in mine:
