Time is approaching for insurance renewal and want to see if anyone has had any good deals, is a classic car policy still the way forward?

Featured Replies

i am with adrian flux give me a real good price considering i am only 22 i had three points with 4 years no claims i also told them that it has a performance exhaust and alloy wheels dont now how much yours is modded by but i am sure they told that the policy i have with them then i am fine to mod it more just as long as i tell them but cant really remember what they said now i have since upgraded a few things and spoke to them since and they havent charged me any more

the main mods that affect insurance seems to be engine ones, as i found out a couple of weeks back when i wanted a quote on mine. im with livingstone warman at the moment. they gave me the cheapest quote of £600 f/c, 3k mileage, £18k+ agreed valuation, all engine mods for 500+ rwhp.

I tried adrian flux a few times when looking to buy the Zed but couldn't even get a quote! Was 24 at the time with no points and 1yr NCB. The Zed is my first high power car though and it does have a few engine mods.

I'm currently with Elephant at a little shy of £1k! No agreed valuation though so treading VERY carefully til I can find a decent alternative!

Just to make sure this is for all mods declared?

yes, all mods declared. but they did tell me that the wide arch kit, wheels, exhaust, suspension, brakes, ect didnt matter. it was the engine mods that they wanted to know about, otherwise it would have been cheaper.

mine has all the engine mods declared but they have a limit of 5mods (!!) which doesn't help things...

Im also with Livingstone Warman, all mods declared bodywork and engine (500hp) and guaranteed ins value of 20k, 5k or 6k miles a year, garaged renewal is 780 FC. If you dont need guaranteed value, I found A-plan quite cheap.

HI,I don't know your mileage or if they accept mods but I am with Norwich union pay as you drive you pay a nominal fee per month and from a gps tracker fitted by rac you pay for the miles that month with different rates for types of road used, you can also have recovery and voice gps,you get a month trial,I had it on my last car but didn't want it on my z and they said they would'nt fit it,car is off the road ot the moment so it,s not fitted yet so will have to see if they insist on fitting the rescue button.Hope this helps someone

i started with flux, then moved to A-Plan, am now with Sky. i intend to move around every year as i still feel im paying too much for my Z (£750 so far with 3 points and every mod declared). Sky's policy is good at the moment - like-for-like replacement for all mods.

problem with classic policys is after 2 years you will lose ya NCB that have been built up as you dont get any NCB with clasic olicys, found this out with adrian flux, luckily i didnt renew with them and i never asked for a classic policy

you can try my mates company Broadsure - 01843 594477, ask for martin (theres 2! either one!) say paul crew reffered you. can insure on a normal (not classic) policy with mods. he will always try to help or tell you straight if he cant :)

Try Carol Nash the next time round. I was with Elephant the first time round and got a not so great quote of about £1.2k and I dont live in the good part of S.London!

Went with classic insurance with Carol Nash, all mods declared and got a brilliant £380ish quote! Having said that they do need your car to be garaged.

I went with Sky.

I have to be completely honest and say the service I got was second to none. Very good indeed (And I work in insurance).

I declared my mods (well future mods as its getting rebuild by duffer), also got cover for a body kit and alloys on top.

Im 25 with max NCB and got a price of £680

When you call ask for Graham and told him that Lee with the 300zx sent you and he'll try his best to help you out.

His number is 0208 3645500.

If you PM me your details (tel etc) I could try and get him to give you a call mate

Let me know

The problem with this type of policy is that they also look at how much of a risk you are from the way you drive. For example quick accelaration and harsh braking etc. I know because my company also do the same policy (mainly for young drivers like)
