when i bought my z the guy gave me decat pipes there new and he said he hadnt time to fit them so ive got them here in me garage and i just wondered would they do damage to the turbos if they were fitted ? a guy @ work said they could fu+k up the seals or something like that , the car is running 100% as is ,,,,,, oh and can anyone tell me what grade of erine oil gos into it also ?? thanks

I think the general opinion is if your seals are going fitting de-cats helps them along. If the seals are good then they should be ok.

I asked the very same question on hear, and from advice from one member on hear who said if you do go de cat be sure your prepared to fork out for new turbos. I took his advise, and didn't.

My personal opinion is that those people who thought they immediately blew their seals, after removing the cats, probably already had knackered seals. The cats were probably helping to absorb some of the smoke generated by the already duff seals. Obviously if their cars were absolutely billowing out smoke then this wouldn't be true!

In theory Cats help to develop that little extra back pressure the turbo seals use to keep them in place. Decatting your car would mean there is no longer any back pressure. Hense the seals tend to go quicker.

 

But then if you think about the ammount of pressure coming out of your exhaust once the turbo's kick in, back pressure is fairly minimal at that stage.

Can they be replaced when the exhaust is being changed??

Often thought about getting an aftermarket exhaust but was always put off by thought of ££££ for new tubs!!
