Need some advice...

I have just switched to sky from NTL / Virgin.

They supply thier own router, so I've disconnected my Belkin and used that instead.

The set up I used to have is as follows:

NTL/Virgin box to Belkin router.

Router to Xbox.

Router to Upstairs HUB

HUB to PC1

HUB to PC2

HUB to Laptop

I want to have the same set up but I'm having the following problems:

I can connect to the net if I go from router directly to the PC, then I have to change the connection so I go from Router to HUB then HUB to PC's all PC's then connect. However these are the problems:

1) When I shut down the PC's and start them up again, they no longer connect to the internet without me plugged the router directly to the PC again.

2) I can't get X-box to connect to the internet (Tried pluggin it in the 2nd yello slot and the blue but nothing).

Any Idea or anyone have Sky plus working for more than one PC ?

if it worked fine before, why not go back to that setup. because your new ISP provide their own, it does not mean you have to use it. just a thought anyway :D

Different connections and because it uses a phone line now rather than a seperate port you need to use the magic boxes as they call them.

So I have to use the sky router.

which router have they supplied you with ?. it seems theres a lot of people having problems with certain models & doing away with them.

the sky ones have a built in mac address and login and password etc

tbh there pretty good routers but i dont like not being able to change much on it, you can hack them, i have a link if you need it stu or you can browse to it by using sky as the login and admin as the password :) but you still dont have access to the login/passwords for your isp :(

I thought it was admin as the logon and sky as the password ??

Anyone else got a similar setup ?

i.e.

Sky router = connection from yellow to home network.

then connection to xbox / ps3 etc.

ive only ever set pc`s, lappy`s, x-box/ps3 systems over a wireless networks as using cables are a PITA to route. as kirbz says, they all have user/password to access settings plus most of them you now have to enter a network key on each pc/games console to gain access to the net.

Not quite sure how you have this configured, but is your main PC set up with Internet Sharing turned on ? If so turn it off. Any of the devices on the network, should be getting their IP address etc via DHCP from the Sky router, if that is happening, then they should all work, without any problems, or additional authentication.

I've got everything through the router. Netgear DG834GT

2 laptops and one pc connected wireless.

x-box plugged into back of router (doesn't matter which one of the 4 connections).

Wii connected wireless. oh and iphone and PSP as well :D

All works fine although x-box live was a PITA to set up. found it easiest to assign manual ip addresses to everything and set up port-fowarding for the xbox.
