Is it possible to start the engine without the underdrive pulley or any of the belts in place ?.

The cambelt is obviously in place but with no underdrive pulley to power the PAS, water pump fan and AC, Can you start the engine briefly without any problems even if you don't connect the pulley itself let alone the belts ?

i dont think you can as the underdrive pulley holds on the crank toothed sprocket for the timing belt. as a precaution i would say no. but a more techy minded person would be along shortly.

you can but its not advised as the belt could come off or as hellpraiser said the sprocket could move but i doubt it as they are normally welded in place !
