Im losing brake fluid in bucket loads, did 7 miles this morning and got through most of the reservoir !!

Are there any 'comon' places the lines fail etc???? Before i have to trace the brake lines.

Can't see any fluid around the reservoir etc

I had the same problem bud and turned out to be the master cylinder even though on inspection i couldn't see any round the reservoir it was seaping out at the bottom of the master cylinder inbetween the servo.

Apparently a common problem on the Zed's, the seals tend to go, you can buy a recon kit or get a 2nd hand recon unit.

Get that sorted asap mate..... The last thing you need is brake fluid buiding up in the wrong place eating up at everything... that stuffs a killer.

Cool,

Any other areas to look at anyone?? Is it a complex pipe system? Are they prone to just fail in the caliper area where the joints are etc??

Pretty sure you can get a recon kit from Mike @ MJP, i got a guaranteed reconditioned unit from Zedworld.

Master cylinder as has already been mentioned - common ZX weak spot.

Better off buying a new one - you can get recon ones but I don't think they are that expensive new. And brakes is one area you do not want to skimp;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i totaly agree!!!,

I had a look at it after work last night but it was in petrol station lighting  Anyway the reservoir was not leaking where it meets the 'piston?' but there was lots of grease/brake fluid where that metal unit meets the firewall. What is the large round black thing it attaches too ??

There was clearly brake fluid under the piston and it was fresh.

Will have a look at a new unit. Would the sustem all need bleeding agian??

Yes it would need bleeding again, and get some water onto where it has been leaking and this will stop it corroding the paintwork!

So i just replace the whole unit and bleed the system? Only done this on bikes!!! Is there a guide to bleeding the system??

bleed from the furthest from the master... rear left, rear right, front left, front right, and dont forget the abs unit in the boot do that too, there are two nipples on the unit rear and front do rear first.

You can get away with just bleeding from the ABS unit if you are only replacing the BMC ;)

I am working! lol

I am working! lol

Yep if your changing all your fluid then you will need to bleed the WHOLE system.

Ok, can you tell me how to do the ABS bit please Jimmy? and do I need to do it in the same order i.e rear first?

Sorry, but I am a woman need this advice;)

General concensus is that you start with the furthest away from the BMC and work your way to the closest. This would give FL, FR, RL, RR, ABS front and rear.

Bleeding the ABS unit is simple - there's 2 bleed nipples on top of it. Remove the cover in the boot, lift the rubber matting on top of it and you will be able to see them :)

If doing from furthest away wouldnt that be....RL,RR,FL THEN FR?

Nope lol, the ABS unit is in the boot:

Lines run from BMC to ABS in boot, THEN to the calipers so the front lines are the longest as they run to the back and then to the front again.

Ok, so jimmy was wrong, lol? so that means ABS then FR,FL,RR,RL? Ye?lol
