One of the major benefits from membership of this club is the help many of our members receive when carrying out modifications etc to our Zeds.

I've had an idea for a while now which could benefit many of us even more...... by having a club TECHNICAL DAY/WEEKEND.

It would comprise a national meet, somewhere fairly central, where subscribed members who need help and guidance carrying out some modification/repair/service/upgrading/etc. to their Zeds could get together and, under supervision of some knowledgable person, carry out the work required.

The 'some knowledgable person' might be a knowledgable volunteer member and/or a qualified Zed mechanic who would be re-imbursed by a 'meet subscription'.

The location would ideally be close to a garage with ramp facilities and, if a weekend meet, close to camping facilities.

This is only the seed of an idea and would require a great deal more thought and organisation (which I would be glad to contribute towards). I am sure there would be many hurdles to overcome, but I believe it would be achievable and many members could benefit from such a meet.

Do you think such a meet would be a good idea?

I think it would be great, as long as people had there own tools and were capable of working on a car under instruction? as i suspect that there would be to few 'experts' for the amount of work needed to be done ???

also the exeperts should nto be held accountable for **** ups!!

But yes it would be good to get less knowledgable more involved in the tech side of things if they wanted to learn

I accept there would have to be some "proviso's", some of which would be:-

1) Members list in advance the work they want to carry out

2) Purchase all parts required in advance and bring to the meet.

3) Bring all own tools required for their jobs.

There are many more, which we would have to agree when the meet is being organised but, at the moment, I am just looking for votes on the basic principle of having a TECHNICAL MEET.

Difficult one this. Yes a very good idea in theory. HOWEVER finding a location with enough available ramps/workshop area for a potentially VERY large number of cars may well be a problem ;)

I agree.........each participant would have to sign a disclaimer, another of the "proviso's" to be included.

I'm glad you think it's a good idea:hyper:

A great idea, maybe a discussion is better than the actual practical doing, unless it's demos on specific cars, otherwise there is a risk of people being stranded with a broken car.

SE/NissTek used to do this occasionally as an Open day.

im using Andy as an example, however it would not have to be Andies premises, this is a for instance.

If the day was on a Sunday when the other units are closed, there would be ample room and a garage facility.

Obviously other tech heads could be there or it could be a diff venue but thats the only thing i can think of

I don't anticipate that there would be a VERY large number of Zeds, but if the response IS large then perhaps it should be regionalised. Also, many of the jobs would not require a ramp/workshop area.

That's the reason for this poll, to establish just how much interest there is and how practical a TECNICAL MEET would be.

It would be good if you added your vote to the poll:bow:

I will when I've had a think about the feasibility of it all and actually decided what I want to vote ;) lol

*edit* Ok yes its a good idea IN THEORY :)

I don't envisage this as an 'open' meet providing a general 'learning facility' with dozens of members milling around just looking at what is being done.

The intention is for members, who do not have the knowledge to carry out a specific job that needs doing on their Zed, but do have the general electro/mechanical abilities required, to carry out the job themselves using their own tools and parts under the GUIDANCE of someone qualified to advise.

It is NOT intended to be a meet where members stand by while an expert does the work for them.

nah i know, i get one to do mine anyway  but it could be a good meet for anyone to attend and pick things up, learn by listening

I know you didnt lol, dont worry

A few of us used to do something similar.

Most of the time there has been 2 or 3 of us doing 2 or 3 zed's at someones house.

It works well if you team up with people in your area. Maybe doing little "Maintainence Meets" first before trying to do a large one would work best.

We have these all the time they're called "Events" or "Meets" and there's a forum section dedicated to them.

Everyone turns up and one or more of the cars are knackered and can't get home so we get the screwdrivers out  LOL

In no way do i relate to just standing around making everyone do it for me. I want to get in there, just be shown how to do it so i know in future :o

Sorry Murt, I didn't mean that! What I was pointing out was that the meet would be intended for members who actually have something they want to do at the meet, not sometime afterwards.

Thought I'd give this a bump as there's only a few days left to the end of the poll.

Eighteen like the idea so far, maybe I should take it to the next step.....what do you think.
