following on from the reclassification of the humble teacake to a 'cake', and someone sending me this fantastic link: http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com/

i got wondering what really defines what is a biscuit and what is a cake... yeah i know some say if it goes hard when stale its a cake and when it goes soft when stale its a biscuit, but surely its not as simple as that.

maybe something that's ready to eat in one piece is a biscuit (which would keep teacakes in the biscuit category and therefore unfortunately still VATable), and something that you need to slice away from a larger object is a cake. warning: ive not thought this through to completion...

what does everyone think? :slap:

Biscuit, literally meaning "twice baked," typically refers to various baked goods from different countries.

A cake is a form of food that is usually sweet and often baked.

both baked, both sweet (hmm but sometimes you get savory biscuits) ..... maybe its the size that counts (hmm you get small cakes), the packaging, cakes are pretty fragile (hmm so are some biscuits)....

err fook seems to be no real difference
