Is that at maximum output and is that when you start the car up?

My positive bat terminal has its own digital read out  so its very handy to see what life is in bat also what voltage the alternator puts back when running.Oh and its chrome:cool:

Can the forum's own resident Father Jack, Feck Off :D

I think most cars are going to be between 13 to 14.5 volts depending load.

output as in what ? volts or amperes ?. on tickover, voltage on most cars with a good battery fitted is around the 14.04volts. if its any less than 13.8 then either the battery isnt too good or the alternator is in need of a new regulator.

Volts on the first five minutes of starting?

if its a very good battery then it should go to the 14v mark as soon as its started.

mines at 14.2v on startup , full load on it with all electricals switched on ( ie lights and ful beam , heater , rear demist, stereo and fogs) sees it drop to 13.4 though

LOLNESS Berkly.:)

you should be measuring alternator output in amps, voltage is just regulated by the voltage regulator & doesnt ness mean its reaching max output ;)
