Hi all.

 

I am loosing cooling fluid again.

 

This has only started to happen since I had the exhaust repaired for the MOT. I am not sure if that would make the car run hotter but it has also stopped the white smoke problem I was having.

 

I had the matrix done 6 months or so ago and have had the plenum bypassed.

 

I know for a fact that there is a hole in the overflow tank but have been told that it isn't really used. Is it likely to be the overflow tank or the radiator cap.

 

I will go and get a cap tomorrow hopefully but am I likely to be waisting my time without fixing the holes in the overflow tank.

I notice in an earlier thread that your after a rad cap and your expansion tank has a hole int it :confused:

Well it has been said that it isn't an expansion tank but is in fact an overflow tank (what difference that makes I don't know).

 

Am just thinking that it is easier to rplace the cap than the tank and the fact the car hasn't lost fluid in the past with the tank in the same condition.

Try a cap first mate!-when I put the Chevy in mine I didn't even use the tank!:)

My money will be on a small leak in the turbo coolant hoses, mine had this and you never saw water on the floor as ir evaporated before it got there, trouble with little leaks like that is they suck in air and cause the system to bubble up.

 

Your probs seem so similar to what i had years ago when i first got my zed, Thing with a coolant system is, when you do something like a plenum bypass it can cause leaks in other areas, i think its because you have got the plenum all sorted the system can get to its full pressure, which puts stress on the next weakest link ie turbo coolant hoses. Id replace the water cooling pipes to the turbos isf i were you they are 8 or 10mm and only 5 or 6 inches long, you will need very bendy arms and lots of paitence though!! Only other common pipes to leak are the 2 on the bulkhead going back to the matrix as they get hot and brittle, but as youve had your matrix done one would hope they did these at the same time.

Thanks. The pipes were replaced on the matrix as well. This is a fairly new problem, I had the plenum done some 3 or 4 months ago and have had no problems with it up until now. It does seem a big coincidence that it is happening since some work was done for the MOT. Hopefully a new rad cap will solve it and Duffers can have a look on Sunday/Monday.

Youll be ok if it is the turbo coolant pipes as duffers got very bendy arms, so much so alot of us simply call him the bender!!

 

Least I think thats why we call it him;)
