I assume my water pump is kaput but before dismantling thought I'd ask for any advice.

Temperature started going up & with heater set at a high temperature no hot air was coming out (fan blowing set on hi). Heater would then cut in & temp. gauge drop back to mid position.

Now heater won't work at all & gauge heads north after about 3 miles.

Any advice very welcome.

You may have an air lock, run the engine for a while to get up to temp, then switch off and see if the two pipes that come out of the front middle of the engine are hot. Also see if the top of the rad is hot.

They should be very very hot so much that youwill almost burn your fingers, if they are not hot then you either have an air lock in the rad or as you say the pump my have packed up.

The pump is faily easy to change, but if you have not had the cambelt changed for a little while you may as well do this at the same time.

As Stu said, it could be an air lock, if you can get your hands on a pressure tester you can push the air lock out by unscrewing the bleed screw at the top of the rad and pressurise the cooling system til the water comes out then simply top it up.

Thanks for the advice.

Would appear to be an airlock. I have run the engine with rad cap off & kept topping it up, took a fair bit (as it spat a lot out when it started getting hot).

Seems ok now so fingers crossed.
